  • Laura's picture seen at the beginning is turned to the wall, the reason being because for the travelling that goes from the picture to Donna the camera was between the wall and the coach and the filmmakers wanted the picture to be seen.
  • While Sarah is describing BOB Leland is behind the folding screen, he appears from there. This is known in the Gazette as the Leland Folding Screen Mystery. See episode 8 too...
  • Sarah talks about the necklace and in the next scene we see a closeup of a necklace in "Invitation to Love".
  • Emerald looking at her hand with a disgusting expression after caressing Chet's hair.
  • Andy carries the sketch book he used to draw BOB when he talks to Lucy.
  • Gordon doesn't seem to have hearing problems in his first appearance (only voice).
  • In Ben's and Catherine's room you can hear that "Invitation to Love" is playing.
  • Harry's cruiser nearly crashes with a nearby tree after he parks it.
  • Andy's gun not only fires itself, but if we look closely it also breaks.
  • Another painting of the waterfalls in the Timber Falls motel.
  • The Timber Falls motel is next to Black Lake (briefly seen in the background).
  • The red line in the wall of the high school bathroom forms the twin peaks.
  • Crew visible in a gas dispenser and Harry's car when Coop and Co. arrive to the Lydecker clinic.
  • Hawk giving five to a pal.
  • The awesomeness of the Lydecker clinic: the llama, animal pictures in the wall, the fire hydrant, the terrible wallpaper or a lizard in the floor; also the groovy music that can be heard with some dog barks...
  • We see in the background the Lydecker receptionist calling the llama girl.
  • The secretaty is also seen laughing in the famous Coop-llama scene; Harry almost does...
  • Bobby's blue shirt reads: "Guilty=4 Plus=1" in the back and "Dick" in the front. Bowling shirt?
  • Leo's wallpaper composed of mushrooms.
  • Christmas stuff and a totem in the hallway leading to the shooting range in the sheriff's station.
  • The nerdy looking fisherman at the Double R.
  • After Maddy leaves James stays in the same spot for a while; we can see him when Norma is on the phone.
  • The lamp in Ben's office imitating deer's hornes.
  • Audrey's fingers above Laura's head in the photo of the two girls.
  • A photo of Jacques with a woman seen behind Harry.

  • The shooting range is also the store-place for of x-mas decorations ... we see two frosty snowmen.
  • Lab results turned up the letter J, from the OEJs poker chip, from Laura's stomach.
  • In previous episode we saw Audrey spying on her brother Johnie and Dr Jacoby. Despite the furtiveness of Audrey's act no secrets were revealed to the audience - just a scene between Jacoby and Audrey's brother revealed as Jacoby prepared him for Laura's funeral. However, in the dialogue between Audrey and Donna in the girls toilets, Audrey informs Donna that she overheard Jacoby say to her brother that Laura was a patient of mine.

Beauty is momentary in the mind -
The fitful tracing of a portal;
But in the flesh it is immortal.
The body dies; the body's beauty lives.
So evenings die, in their green going,
A wave, interminably flowing.
So gardens die, their meek breath scenting
the cowl of winter, done repenting.
So maidens die, to the auroral
Celebration of a maiden's choral.
Susanna's music touched the bawdy strings
Of those white elders; but, escaping,
Left only Death's ironic scraping.
Now in its immortality, it plays
On the clear viol of her memory,
And makes a constant sacrement of praise.

('Peter Quince at the Clavier' by Wallace Stevens)

When Josie is taking pictures at Timber Falls moter there isn't a wood truck at yard. But when Andy, Cooper and Harry gets there, the truck has also appeared there.

Ok I musn't be very good at this since I didn't even notice these threads...

I am watching with a virgin viewer and we just finsihed this episode and I went 'WAIT A MINUTE!" and wemt back to the Hawk slapping high five moment.

The thought of Hawk being friends with some dude sitting on the steps in front of a vet clinic...man, how odd indeed...I wonder if they were doing a really suave drug deal...

The totem pole seen among the Christmas decorations can also be seen earlier in the background of the Timber Falls stakeout scene!

I took it as Audrey inferring. She says, "So he tells Johnny 'Laura is in a better place blah blah blah' and he knows that *because* Laura was his patient."  Her intuition is better than Cooper's. She makes the same leap in logic with One Eyed Jack's and the perfume counter.

What is Leland always doing behind that folding dresser?

There is a lady in Lydecker clinic waiting room wearing a TP varsity jacket.

What does Bobby spit out when he is at Shelly's house discussing her gun and Leo's bloody shirt?

Was Jacques cool with Leo killing his own brother Bernard?

This episode made me think of my weakest episode endings thread - Hank sending a domino picture to Josie and then calling her - ooooohhh, spooky!

On this current run through season one, this has been my least favorite episode so far of a BRILLIANT season.

"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it, don't wait for it, just let it happen. Could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot, black coffee. Like this."  -Dale Cooper

Goof or not, I personally love the Leland folding screen mystery. It's used to such creepy effect in episode 8. He must have been there spying on Maddy and Sarah just before breaking into "Mairzy Doats". Even though there seems to be even more goofs in Lynch episodes than in the others, I find it hard to believe that Lynch didn't consider this during filming of episode 8.

"What credit card do you want to put that on?"
"Caash, prease."

I always wonder if Leland is just back there grinning looking in a mirror or something at BOB.  Love it.

I had always noticed his sudden appearances and supposed that they were justified on grounds of practicality, i.e. he just needed to appear in the scene from somewhere, so why not there.

But, just the other night I was watching on my laptop and with headphones the scene from Episode 8 where he appears for the first time with white hair. Before Leland appears from behind the screen there is a distinctive sound of a door opening, a softer sound, then closing, noticeably a louder and more complex sound. So these audio cues seem to suggest that Leyland enters the area behind the screen by using a door, but there is obviously no such door to be seen (unless there is supposed to be some sort of patio-door leading off from that sunroom area?).

I had never heard the sounds before, and my headphones are just simple buds, but the sound is definitely there. Seems to me then to be an ill-thought out attempt to answer the 'where did he come from?' question that only serves to open up another continuity error about the existence of said door.

In episodes 14 and 15 we see BOB in two different mirrors, one next to the exit door and yes, another one BEHIND the folding screen... So it's a pretty good guess to say that's what Leland/BOB was doing in eps.4 and 8, looking at the mirror with the same evil joy we later witness... His appearance in ep.4 creeps me out specially, even Sarah notices something strange in him ("Did you tell them about the necklace? You're gonna love that one").
