Does anyone else find it very funny that not one couple shown in the series is faithful to eachother? Pretty much every single character in the show cheats on someone or is cheated on and has an outside relationship with someone else. I find that very funny and brilliant at the same time. I've always wondered why David lynch wanted to portray the town in that way.

Do you think this was done intentionally? Well, obviuosly it was done intentionally, but maybe it shows that the evil in Twin peaks affects everyone by causing infidelity in their lives if nothing else.

I love the way Lynch over-dramaticizes, if that's a word, all the love stories. Is he poking fun at relationships? Again, brilliant.

Any opinions?

I love the soap opera aspects of Twin Peaks... they make the show interesting and intelligent and a guilty pleasure all in one... I don't think there's any real reason for the couples being unfaithful to each other except to provide plenty of soap opera twists.

That god damn trailer's more popular than Uncle's Day in a whorehouse!

Infidelity is a running theme is just about everything Lynch has made.

Ahem ... the log lady! She was faithful to her husband, then when he popped of the twig, so to speak, she hopped on the log. Love me two times baby.

Beauty is momentary in the mind -
The fitful tracing of a portal;
But in the flesh it is immortal.
The body dies; the body's beauty lives.
So evenings die, in their green going,
A wave, interminably flowing.
So gardens die, their meek breath scenting
the cowl of winter, done repenting.
So maidens die, to the auroral
Celebration of a maiden's choral.
Susanna's music touched the bawdy strings
Of those white elders; but, escaping,
Left only Death's ironic scraping.
Now in its immortality, it plays
On the clear viol of her memory,
And makes a constant sacrement of praise.

('Peter Quince at the Clavier' by Wallace Stevens)

This is from an interview immediately before Twin Peaks became a huge success:

"

"Would you say it´s a spoof of Falcon Crest or Dynasty?" I said.

"No. No no no. No. Not at all," he said, getting his point across rather well and almost coming apart at the seams. "Not at all. It´s a real thing. It´s not a spoof, it´s not anything else. It´s just Twin Peaks. It´s its own thing. And it´s a real thing."

"Okay," I said. "I´ve only seen the first episode, but everybody seems to be having an affair with everybody else."

"Like I say," David said,"it´s just like real life."

Betty and Garland were faithful.  I think Andy's loyalty to Lucy was pretty sincere.
