The 25 years thing has never been quite clear to me...What does it mean?Does the final scene with Laura and Cooper in the black lodge (in FWWM) take place 25 years later in the future? Does this mean that the good Coop will stay 25 years trapped in the BL?That has always been very confusing to me...Can you guys clear it up for me? :)Thank you!:)

Cooper represents me & Laura is you, & the 25 years is how long it is until you talk to me again!!! I'm kidding. But I do miss talking to you & am happy to see you back on the board. Hope you had a wonderful birthday. I was hoping you'd say happy birthday to me, but... when will you be back at your mom's? I'd like to send you something for Christmas.(;P)

I LOVE this question....party because it implies something happening in 25 years.

(spoiler alert)

The original red-room sequence happens 25 years later, meaning that Cooper (older cooper) is there in the lodge and it HAPPENS at that time.  The most common perception of this is that the good cooper is going to be trapped in the lodge for that long, while the Doppleganger side of him is out, so Bob can use him.

HOWEVER, since they hadn't planned on anything remotely similar to the Black Lodge when they shot the original red-room sequence, and since the series has never been continued....no one knows for sure if cooper is left there for that long....or if he has to go there at that particular time. If there is ever a continuation, I hope this is something addressed.

There were reports that the next season of TP was going to flash forward 10 years, and continue with Cooper living in TP, and Major Briggs going into the Black lodge to get Cooper out....so, maybe they initially weren't going to make it a 25 year wait for Cooper to get out....BUT you have to take these reports with a grain of salf.

Also coincidence has MOLDED the fabric of Twin Peaks in other situations...and many times, for the better.  (take Frank Silva getting in that famous shot by accident)

Now that so much time has passed, if there is a continuation, I believe it WILL be a 25 year later, thingy.  THat would be quite interesting, especially since Lynch has said there is more to tell, and Frost has said he is interested.

It's probably better to pretend that Laura saying "see you in 25 years" is an inside joke about their shared dream than anything else.

Well, given that Laura says, "See you again in 25 years," surely this means that Cooper will escape from the Red Room in a short time, remain on Earth for 25 years and then return to the Red Room, where he will see Laura again.

If Cooper were to stay in the Red Room for 25 years, then he would be effectively "bumping into" Laura on a daily basis, because she is in the Red Room, as well.

As far as I can see, Laura's somewhat enigmatic utterance means that Cooper will leave the Black Lodge and then not return to it for 25 years, which will be in the year 2014.

I think this is plausible. Laura is in the Lodge and I believe she's powerful in a sense. She might have "sent" the dream to Cooper, and thus would know that he would understand the reference. If this is the case, there's nothing happening in 25 years at all, something which is - strangely enough - a relief to me. Of course, the sequence in the international pilot can be construed as really happening, but still it's the dream in episode 2 that must be considered canon. And that's clearly a dream - even if Coop might be clairvoyant.

 Oh, the places you'll go!

Well, I meant gnomic in the sense of mysterious, esoteric, difficult-to-understand or ambiguous. (I did not mean gnome-like or resembling a garden gnome.)

I couldn't get anything...

I know in the Black Lodge there's no time, and everything is backwards, messed up,upside-down,bla bla... but when Cooper was in the lodge,to him it was like an hour or so...but to the other in the regular world,it's like one day  .. I really don't understand anything..I still don't get the 25 years thing :(((

You probably meant enigmatic, then.  Unless you mean to say that Laura's comment was a general maxim, or some sort of reference to Old English verse or the classical Greek gnomic poets.  Gnomic does not mean what you have indicated above.

And in any case, I knew what you meant.  I'm sure we all did.  I was just having a little fun.

I think since Cooper is TRAPPED in the black lodge....he can age there.  He ages just as his doppleganger on the outside ages.  After all....Leland was a kid when Bob first got to him....but he is older in the black lodge.   Look at the last episode.  His hair is neither brown or white....it is both.  I think this is done for a reason.

You are also forgetting that Laura's doppleganger said, "meanwhile" and began screaming like a lunatic...meaning that meanwhile, Cooper is going to endure such madness.  The truth is though...no one really KNOWS for sure about any of this...except for maybe Mark Frost and David Lynch.

Well..I prefer to agree with Booth and Evenreven about Laura's "25 years later thingy" being a reference to the dream they shared. And in this connection I want to say I'm a firm believer that Laura and Cooper were meant to be together, even in another world..Yes,they both are victims of BOB and their souls are trapped in the Black Lodge, but they are finally united(the final scene in FWWM -so beautiful and powerful),and I believe that was the idea of Twin Peaks - Laura is finally safe, she has her angel back and Cooper, her saviour by her side, and she feels protected..something she always wanted.

Yes, you are right. I meant "enigmatic". I used the wrong word. I apologise.

Maybe Bob only feeds every 25 years.

Like Pennywise the clown in IT. Except he was every 27 years.
