What is your favourite scene from a David Lynch movie or TV show?

Mine, in terms of sheer emotional power has to be Sherilyn Fenn's from Wild at Heart. But I'm sure I could be persuaded by your posts. Other great scenes are from TP when Sarah realises Laura's dead in the Pilot and Maddy's death in Episode 16. (Tells you something about the director when all your favourite scenes involve death)

Boringly; the first few minutes of ERASERHEAD, with Henry walking through the industrial gloom. That sums up Lynch. Anything else is garnish.

Dean Stockwell singing "In Dreams" from Blue Velvet.

I like the first Winkie's scenes from Mulholland dr. too. Something really spooky about the acting.

All of Eraserhead and Fire Walk with Me (I can't choose between all the good scenes).

The tiny parents in MULLHOLLAND DRIVE is so silly, yet...so scary. And the very begining of the film, with those zany dancers. Creates unnamed emotions.

 That winkie's scene is intense!

Another scene that is a hightlight for me is the beginning of season 2 of TP. When that senile hotel - employee visits cooper when he's shot. That is just some other - wordly whatchamacallit!

This is a sentence and you are reading it now.

2nd episode (i believe) where cooper first has the dream of the red room

Frank singing "in dreams" (I believe that's what it was called or candy colored clown or whatever) before beating up Jeffery.

Fred Madison sitting and smoking the hell out of a cigarette, the buzzer and the message.

Alvin Straight sitting at the bar, talking about the war.

The Cowboy talking to Adam Kesher in the lot at night.

The murder of Maddie vs Cooper at the Roadhouse.

The live on-the-air sketch completely falls apart, with the camera on its side and everyone at home laughing.

Yes, Jaime!! The last ten minutes of the On the Air pilot is still ten of the funniest 10 minutes of TV I've ever seen. Good call.

"In Dreams" from Blue Velvet...then the 'Pretty Pretty' scene with Frank about to beat Jeffrey up...that chick dancing on the car as the music plays...

Mr. Eddie car chase scene in Lost Highway--I don't think I laughed harder at anything than I did at that. LOL

Sherylin's scene in Wild at Heart.

Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me--the scene of Laura crying in the Roadhouse, the scene with Laura and Donna laying in the living room... "...and the angels wouldn't help you...because they've all gone away", Carl's scene getting woken up BEFORE 9,  "Goodnight, princess" scene between Leland and Laura, very ending with Laura, Coop, and the angel.

Twin Peaks: Discovery of Laura, Coop's drive into town, The World Spins/Maddy's death in 14, Leland/Bob being unmasked/Leland dying in Coop's arms, and every scene in episode 29. :)

I've been known to pop the DVDs of either LH or MD into the player, just to quickly watch either the "this magic moment" or "Winkies" scenes.

Another one I go back to a lot is "it wasn't you, but it looked like you" from LH. The way the camera moves around Pullman in that scene.....the whole thing is just sublime, IMO....

Has he taken his eyes off it yet?

Of course I have favorites from everything, but I think my all-time is from Wild at Heart when the Big Tuna boys are sitting around in lawn chairs at night, drinking. Jack Nance barks, plumper porn ladies running around. Good times.

Wild at Heart: Juana's murder of Johnnie Farragut.

Twin Peaks: Leland and Sarah are informed of Laura's death (Pilot).

Inland Empire: Nikki's first encounter with the prostitutes ("Ghost of Love").

FWWM: The Phillip Jeffries/Lodge inhabitants scene.

If "Favourite Lynch Scene" were meant as my favorite with Lynch acting in front of the camera, then I'd have to say his scene in Twin Peaks kissing Shelly. The way Coop starts to say, "Uhh, Gordon..." along with the stunned look on Bobby's face while Cole goes in for kiss #2 were priceless, while Cole is blissfully unaware of the awkwardness he was creating, as usual. That's a nice breed of magic.

If "Favourite Lynch Scene" means anything he's directed, that's been covered very well by the other fans here. I find myself agreeing with everyone.

My favourite scenes are:

1) Spencer's rolling head in Eraserhead (Surreality! Pure ART!)

2) the crazy final run with the car escaping from the Unknown while David Bowie sings "I'm deranged" in Lost Highways (Fatality! An inner mortal kombat in the character that grows inside the head of the spectator as a primal scream while the yellow stripes run off)

3) The lesbian kiss in Mudholland Drive: I ADORE those women! (Lesbiality! The beautiest way of kissing someone as a form of pure passion and art)

And everything from The Elephant Man, of course....A true TOTAL masterpiece in which you cannot divide a scene from the other (Cinemality! TOTAL CINEMA ITSELF!)

It is by will alone I set my mind in motion. It is by the juice of Sapho that thoughts acquire speed, the lips acquire stains.the stains are a warning.it is by will alone I set my mind in motion.

if it has to be one then...

FWWM

the scene from Laura outside 'the bang-bang' and the 'log lady' touching her forehead...which leads to the triumvate of tunes 'Questions in a World' 'The Pink Room' & 'Blue Frank' has become my favourite Lynch scene/piece of all time (even topping Blue Velvet's In Dreams scene).  Its just the greatest collage of sound and images that I've ever had the pleasure to witness...yes the subject matter is dark & heavy (no shit, its Lynch afterall) but the overall effect is visually and sonically breathtaking.  The contrast between the heavenly Cruise tune which segues into the Lynch penned Pink Room/Blue Frank 'bang-bang' hellishness...is pure genius (although I'm loathe to use that term generally).  To conclude, this scene is both incredible & horrible, yet still chaotically beautiful...it ends with a sublime crossfade from the dirtiest bar floor to the wind in the trees in Twin Peaks.  15+ mins of jaw dropping artistic intensity.

Overall, it could easily be the gorgeous ending to Fire Walk With Me. The music is just so perfect and fits the mood, along with Sheryl Lee's acting and the way it closed the whole Twin Peaks saga. As for his other stuff:

Eraserhead: beginning with Jack Nance's character walking to his apartment.

The Elephant Man: train station scene.

Blue Velvet: "Don't be a good neighbor to her" scene

Wild at Heart: bank robbery, opening scene or "Love Me" number

Lost Highway: when Pete stands up and it's actually Fred again, with an eerie sound effect playing in the background

Mulholland Dr.: "I've Told Every Little Star" scene

Inland Empire: "Locomotion" scene

The Lost Highway scenes in Lost Highway.

Then the FBI scene with Jeffries in Fire Walk with Me.

Then the Tremond picture scene in Fire Walk with Me.

Then Rabbits. Probably.

Eh, all are almost the same kind of scenes. I like it when we go "beyond".
