Does anyone on here actually believe the Mystery Disc will contain worthwhile stuff or just DL.com rejects and Lynch buliding a coffee table munching on quinoa?

Are the Dumbland or Dynamic 1-Best of DL.com DVD's any good?

Don't know about Dumbland but Dynamic 1 was pretty pedestrian. I like Lamp (DL makes a lamp) but that's just cause I love his voice. Most were forgettable. There is an early scene for IE with the cigarette burn that was quite engaging. Once. The rest is crud.

The best we can expect is behind the scenes stuff. I was amazed to see the Eraserhead video footage. That would be great to get something like that - 45/60/90min. Maybe the scene DL mentioned he cut out of Eraserhead - the bed scene.

*wistful sigh*

What DL DVD's are NOT on this set? TP/FWWM, INLAND EMPIRE, LOST HIGHWAY, MULHOLLAND DRIVE, STRAIGHT STORY, DUNE, DYNAMIC-BEST OF DL.COM, LYNCH ONE, ON THE AIR, AMERICAN CHRONICLES, HOTEL ROOM, and  PRETTY AS A PICTURE.   Am I missing anything? Just trying to speculate what a future set could contain.

+ Mulholland Drive, Lost Highway, shorts and erm... almost everything you might want. the thing will sit on your shelf and glow greenly reminding you of everything it DOESN'T contain.

I enjoyed the quinoa thing, but I've already tacitly acknowledged that there's something wrong with me.

I watched Quinoa thinking it was going to be about Quinoa Achebe, but then I realized that's not his name.
Also I have never watched Quinoa.

Montana, if by the 'bed scene' you mean the one with two girls tied up and being zapped with electricity, that was included in the DVD 2000 Box Set on dl.com. Problem was, the footage is gone, he only had a still shot, which we put sound to. His ex-wife had all the B-Roll, negative and cut scenes taken to a dump in Virginia while he was in Mexico filming 'Dune'. Any 'Eraserhead' you will ever see is what you already know, the rest has been sitting in a landfill for some 25 years.

Or, more precisely, the booth code to unlock the "scene" was presented on the Eraserhead 2000 DVD and thus only accessible, even in the piecemeal form you mention, to fee-paying members of dl.com; such details are important.

I find it compelling, but it could be just a cult of personality kinda thing.  It lives in the realm of the finger-waggle, and I can't say it adds anything of major substance to the canon.  (It's on the 2-disc IE release, if that wasn't mentioned yet).

I will say, with confidence, that youtube does not inherently artistically degrade it, though the link I've supplied is awfully dark if you don't crank up the brightness settings if you watch it.

EDIT: removed link.  The video poster cut off the very end, and I don't recommend watching it.

Well, Geoff, I never knew that. Once these things are done, I never look at them again. It's 'work', ya know? Plus, Dave never said what he was going to do with these various things we made. So that was hidden. I wonder if all that stuff is still available on the site. Haven't ever done the 'booth' thing. Anyway, I still wonder if that was the scene he was talking about.

Hey John!  Saw you on here and just wanted to let you know I love Mountains Falling and listened to it on the way to work this morning and I am also embarassed to say I don't own BLUE BOB, but plan on ordering it soon!  Thanks for all your contributions to Lynchland!

Would it be a massive overreaction if I offered to pay for an armed guard for the FWWM deleted scenes out of my own pocket?

I seem to be in the minority that thinks this will be a good box set (for fans who don't already have most of this stuff like me), but I think there is a ZERO percent chance of any TP/FWWM material on the mystery disc or anything else worthwhile for that matter.  From a business standpoint, why would you hide where your bread is buttered (TP)?

I don't need another copy of WAH, or Eraserhead.  My only TV is 8" x 11" with tinny little speakers, so I don't care about BV in 5.1.

HOWEVER-

I've always wanted the Eraserhead soundtrack, don't own Dumbland (watched the last installment stoned the other day and laughed my ass off) or The Elephant Man, and only own bad VHS dubs of the short films and Industrial Symphony.  So I'll buy it.  Used, of course.

I don't understand the re-remix of Blue Velvet in 5.1. I mixed the DVD in 5.1 some 6 years ago. It was the third film I re-did for DVD, after "The Elephant Man" and "Twin Peaks: Fire, WAlk With Me". Yes, there were a LOT of missing elements - things listed on the warehouse manifest that just were not there, and I had to fudge a few things because of that. I think the only reason Lynch would remix it is if they found more elements. It's not like there would all of a sudden be a bunch o'stuff in the surrounds. Dave does not like surrounds. He has a 'ten percent rule'. No more than ten percent can be put in the surrounds, and then only things like ambiences and some music. I stuck to that rule on Blue Velvet, and introduced a lot of strong dramatic elements into the subwoofer channel, so it can't be like there's nothing there. I'd be interested to hear his reasoning. Plus, I had the mag elements transferred at 24 bit, so it's already in hi-res sound. And, MGM struck new 5.1 film prints with my mix on it, so they thought it was good... go figure.

I tend to agree with your point about the deleted scenes but live in hope all the same...

And a quinoa dinner with the man himself in pitch black darkness only lit by his cigarette.

Do you think anything will leak out about the Mystery Disc prior to the November 18th release date?

 Latest from www.Dugpa.com

HM: Can you tell us anything about what’s on the mystery disc?

Lynch: I can. Screeners are going out so people are going to know. But it’s got some very important things in my book. One of the things it has is 32 scenes never seen before from Wild at Heart. Partial scenes, extended scenes and complete scenes from a work print that was found, so it’s funky quality, but all of them have been edited as much as I could edit them with what was available and all of them have been mixed. Also on that disc is, I had a foot locker, and this foot locker hadn’t been opened, well it was opened I guess in ’86, and but it hadn’t been open since the ’60s. It has 16mm experiments I did in Philadelphia in the late ’60s. One of the things is a fictitious Anacin commercial. Do you know what Anacin is?

HM: No.

Lynch: Anacin is like Aspirin. I don’t know what happened to Anacin. And then it’s got a thing called “Absurd Encounter with Fear.” And then a kind of montage of these 16mm experimental things with a few pieces from [short films] “The Alphabet” and “The Grandmother.”

HM: There are a few things you’ve done I know fans have been asking for on disc for a while — cancelled ’90s comedy TV series “On the Air,” Web series “Rabbits” and anything from the original “Mullholland Dr.” TV pilot, for instance. If not included on the new set, are there plans to bring any of that material to DVD?

Lynch: The original episodes of “Rabbits” are on the mystery disc. “On the Air” is not on there, nor is “Hotel Room,” but we’re working on those things. It’s always rights issues.

I know regardless of what's on the Mystery Disc, fans will be whining and moaning about what's on there, what was left off, and what they would want in an ideal scenario, but I think WAH deleted scenes and Rabbits sound great to me and I will be preordering it from amazon.com.

I think WAH deleted scenes is definitely worthwhile, and probably has convinced me to get this.

32 scenes from Wild At heart seems a lot indeed. I think I know what at least 3 of those scenes will be 1) the extended death of Johnnie Farragut 2) the spin the bottle scene 3) the Freddie Francis character ( sorry I cannot recall the characters name) and his speech on Rats with wings . I wonder what the other 29 will be ?

Is it just me or is DL putting more effort into DVDs and coffee, and his (IMO) poor artwork etc. than on making a new film. Of course, I wouldn't criticise him for it, but I just hope he still has plans for film projects.
