Don't you mean countdown to TM overload?

"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it, don't wait for it, just let it happen. Could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot, black coffee. Like this."  -Dale Cooper

TM is two thirds of TMI (Too Much information).

I realise your being jokey Booth but how is TM too much information for you? I don't think every Lynch film viewer will warm to meditation, but what's so bad about it?

I can't see why a casual Lynch fan wouldn't find it of at least mild interest, in my view anyway.

It was in response to TM overload. Everyone that reads this board will know that just about every news story about Lynch is related to TM, so I just said that it could be read as meaning "too much".
It doesn't bother me, as I, just like everyone have the choice to not listen.

I have nothing against meditation.

Oh, ok - I am not a big regular here.

I'd hope to see something of some news from Lynch of course that isn't just TM-related, but its all been about that of late.

Apart from the release of Surveillance here in the UK, but then I missed that at the cinema - what an idiot I am!

Don't get me started.    Are there any archives on previous TM threads?  That might be the place to look.

The Radio City benefit videos are up:

http://dlf.tv/livestream/

Part 2 at 14:53 is the beginning of a series of TM documentaries DL is directing. (It's old footage of the Beatles and MMY set to wind and sitar.)

It raised an estimated $3 million

Maybe the next benefit can raised $ for arts and sports programs in schools, things that are also vital for creativity and relaxation for kids.

I watched the whole thing.

I guess I'm a little confused as to why promoting early morning "Quiet Time" at schools costs so much money. There is no mention of mantras

Also, interesting that Laura Dawn (co-director and talent producer of the concert) coined the title "Change Begins Within" AND was the creative director for Move On, a political organization that campaigned for Obama-- who also used ambiguous "change" as a trademark selling point.

COINCIDENCE?!?!

One would think that DL would be interested in raising money for art and music programs.  Alot of the MIU peeps in Fairfield seem to have quite a bit of money.  There were many rumors among the townies about The MIU folks preying on elderly people with no family in an attempt to get their money.  I find it curious how they claim it's not a cult or religion but all signs seem to point in this direction.  Why do schools need a program for quiet time?  Perhaps they could just hold seminars for interested students and these kids could have quiet time at home.  In a time when educational programs are suffering, I just think that this kind of money could be spent in a more beneficial way.

About the mantras- They are given in secret by who knows who.  You are not to share your mantra with anyone.  I wonder if they just give everyone the same mantra.  That would be kinda funny.

When comparing notes, all four Beatles discovered that the Maharishi had given each of them the same mantra: i-ing.

All ex-meditators in our study were told that the mantra was a sound without meaning and none knew that the mantra was given out in a standardized way (i.e. other people of the same age would receive the same mantra). Every meditator kept the mantra a secret. That they all kept the mantra to themselves is an indication of the strong influence of TM and a foundation of further unquestioning obedience to TM directives.- a TM Ex Newsletter

http://minet.org/Documents/German-Study

This idea of secrecy troubles me.

In the Dark Ages, this is how priests kept people dependent on the Church to corner the market on their relationship with God, and thus keep the money flowing in.

Sermons were in languages unintelligible to the congregation-- first Greek, then Latin-- and heavy emphasis was placed on ritual (even screens separated the congregation from the altar.)

Translation of the sacred languages was considered heretical and punishable by death.

"Interest" it what leads us to sites like this:

http://www.behind-the-tm-facade.org/transcendental_meditation-relaxation.htm

and the "dysfunctional group mentality" (cult) experience horror stories.

As well as countless firsthand accounts of MMY telling TM instructors to lie to students about their mantras and the purpose of TM and to mismanage funds. (ie. "elephants have teeth.")

There just seems to be so much more bad than good. No one flies. No one is enlightened. It's an organization that preys on hope, and suggestible states induced by relaxation, for profit.

Hmmm. This woman responding to Moby's journal says the Quiet Time program has hijacked and negatively affected a SF public school:

Hmmm, i also have my doubts about TM, for the same reason as you 12r. I am, however, a keen meditator ever since our class was taught about it at school. I remember it gave me great insight, and i would be lying if i said it hasn't enriched my life abundantly. I just don't buy into the big groups, classes, cults, etc. It's a very personal thing, and if you're striving for something that you don't find there yourself, then something's not right.

I'll always remember that class when we were taught about it. It blew my mind because around that time i got into a huge scientific conversation with my friend's Dad who lectured Quantum Physics at a University in Warwickshire, and he was impressed with how interested i was, being so young at the time. Then the meditation thing just resonated with me, because i knew there was much to be discovered which our five senses cannot grasp, much like water can't contain the images reflected in it.

So yeah, whilst i can appreciate aspects of it, i find TM a little too "uniform" if you get me. There are too many rules, regulations, and concepts; whereas certain offshoots of buddhism have been spending thousands of years teaching how to eradicate these. Plus some of the things mentioned above are just plain creepy!
