If Kings Row is anything to go by it's because Doctor Hayward is a sadist that has amputated her legs.

Yeah, just imagine the kind of upper body strength that would be needed to push the wheels of a car.

Well, Doc Heyward married her in a drunken haze, then they went up to a cabin and went hunting. One of his shots ricocheted and hit her in the leg.

Kinky sex injury with Ben Horne.

Possibly in a threesome with Doc involving a Love Swing or similar bondage contraption. Definitely the night Donna was conceived. Ben paid them off for their silence about the whole situation, but it barely covered the medical bills. This is why there is so much tension and hostility.

It was an ice-breaker to meet guys.  She liked it when they would ask "where ya get your wheels"?,  that's how she met Doc.

Ben:  "We've laid in a gala reception for your fair-haired boys tonight.  All of Twin Peaks' best and brightest."

Jerry: "We're holding it in a phone booth?"

The show should have ended with a shot of Eileen standing up from her chair and screaming "By the mighty power of ABC's president....I can walk!!!". Then several shots of well known Peaks locations being nuked to hell, credits rolling, Laura in cup of coffee, the Lynch/Frost Productions logo and the end...

I always thought that Ben had something to do with it also, but I never imagined some kinky love swing scenario :)

Maybe the good doctor pushed her down the stairs in a fit of rage.

the wheelchair is a metaphor for her inability to walk.

People who use wheelchairs can drive. My uncle was in one for most of his life. You can get special hand controls for the gas pedal and brake.

The question is, Where have you gone?

I think I have some of those ancient "Eileen Hayward in: Fire Roll With Me" pictures... If you want I can look for them, post them and ruin the seriousness of this thread once and for all...

I wasn't aware that such aides were in existence. Thanks for clarifying that.

I learned this on ChiPs when I was like 7.

I always assumed she was just some kind of droid. I suppose the disabled thing makes sense now, thanks.

At the '99 festival, they named all the foods at the celebrity dinner after Peaks stuff. You had "Salmon...wrapped in phyllo dough", Johnny Horne's vegetables, the Little Dessert From Another Place, and my personal favorite, Eileen Hayward rolls. :D

Whilst having an affair, Eileen and Ben were in a car accident. She got the worst of it. They had been drinking at the Great Northern. This might have been revealed in season 3.
