Thematically speaking, I'd say it is. Audrey has a troubled relationship with her father, and thus is attracted to the darker, more curious things. She even states about Laura that she "knew her better than the rest." Then there is of course the subject of incest. In the first episode of season 2 it deepens, as Ben, though not knowing it is his daughter, tries to court Audrey for sexual intercourse at One Eyed Jacks. It's a particularly disturbing and almost nightmarish scene. I don't know about anyone else, but I think the relationship between Audrey and Ben is a mild reflection of the madness and horror of the relationship between Leland and Laura.
There was a fiish..iinn the percolatrr!

Yeah, I think that's definitely true. Maybe, without BOB's influence, Leland's relationship with Laura would have been more like Ben's with Audrey: hinted at under the surface but never exercised.

The OEJ Prudence in the white mask scene is certainly meant to be a narrative mirror/parallel, like so many of the other love triangles.
In a town like Twin Peaks, whatever they powder the donuts with makes everyone unfaithful and prone to incest rape. I'm sure Doc performs all the examinations of his teenage daughters himself, too.

heheh, i guess thw wizard has been laying off the wacky-acky...a cohernet post hehe. I suppose yeah there is something themetically there...the OEJ's thing, etc etc... One of the oddest, saddest, most unsettling lines in all of TP (and there are many!) Is Audrey's season 1 line "He used to sing to her..." WHit?!?!hehe

Antigone Complex. It starts with the pony and the singing, and then Audrey wants to usurp Emory, Jerry, Bobby... all the men in Ben's life because she loves him.
It was too easy usurping Laura. Just play hooker and get kidnapped to get daddy to finally notice you, as a daughter AND a sex object. Finally, right?!
The complex was probably also the reason she stayed a virgin until she found the one guy her father respected and treated like family.
And let's not forget that the actress who played James' mom in that deleted scene looks just like Evelyn Marsh (and by James' account, there was kind of a perverted subtext in that scene.)

Surely it's the Elektra complex.

That one is more appropriate to Donna in the 2nd half of Season 2, imo. She stalks Ben jealously and takes every chance to cut Eileen down. That scene with the peas is, omfg, so tense. But the revelation of who her daddy really is comes only after the good Doc slings his manhood around and shows Ben (and Donna) whose is bigger.
I don't see much mommy jealousy in Audrey, who has major major penis envy. If being daddy's tart, from the writers' standpoint (whorehouse, beauty contest, bondage x2) is the only way to get the symbolic phallus (ie. political power and respect from men) -- and I'm moving away from Freud into Lacan territory here-- this is more in line with Antigone.

i agree with the lacan and antigone analogies. mostly. beyond all the incestuousness and murder that parallels laura with audrey in the first season. we cant forget how changed her character is after being rescued from one eyed jacks. at the bookhouse, when she sees cooper, its as if shes seeing her father AND and idealized man who better watch out when she's out of school and comes looking for him. her own relationship to ben is completely changed. so is ben. now ive heard that the coop/audrey romance was nixed for this part of the story, and sure that would have been interesting, but i dont think we can fault the show for not going the way we wanted it to go.
