I noticed last night that the word ERASERHEAD contains the name Rhea. Rhea was the wife of Saturn. Saturn devoured his own kids. There was something very foodlike about the stuff issuing from Henry's kid. The little chickens the family serve up also mirror the child to be. We also have the astronomy angle in the film with planets and space etc. I was stoned when I noticed this FYI. :) Henry's kid mocked Henry when he didn't get to shag her next door again, leading to its disembowelling. Saturn ate his kids because it was prophesised that one of them would take his power. Think about it. Henry floats in space at the start of the film, like a planet? like a god? He spews up a sperm, Saturn is given a potion that makes him spew up his still living kids. Henry pulls sperm out of Mary in bed, killing more potential kids. The woman in the radiator steps on sperm, showing him what to do. Henry is shown with his kid screaming, coming out of him, again mirroring the notion that Henry is Saturn with his kids inside him. Admit it, I'm ace at this. :)

Also, Saturn's fate was to be cast down into Tartarus, the underworld. Pretty much the film location, really. Picture that massive doorway he enters.

You're ace at this. Many think Jupiter may have eaten some of its moons (babies) too...like Saturn, perhaps during its early formation as a gas giant.

Which is primarily the same story as the one found in Revelation. Saturn (Satan) was cast down from heaven(s) and buried for 1000 years etc.

I saw that film this weekend for the first time. I must admit i didn't have a clue what the fuck was going on, but i laughed pretty much throughout the whole thing. Very "Garth Marenghi's Darkplace" indeed. But with more fighting.

There's also a case to be made for Lynch's revelation that reading the bible told him what the film was about. Consider Herod. Compare his actions to that of Kronos/Saturn. Consider linking Jesus to Zeus.

i guess mythology is about layers of human consciousness that get depicted as persons having a name, so that you can talk about them more easily and not have to always say "there is a layer of human consciousness that is like this and that and does this and that". also there is a struggle between different layers and a development, which is shared by every (introverted?) human being. consider children growing up (can't do a thing with "there is a layer of human ...") and the common desire to not pronounce XYZ when X would be shorter. also, i guess, back in those days, when those mythologies were constantly the talk of the town or what, there was this thing with "those who are able to understand it will understand it by themselves", which is nowadays, i guess, not given, since there is no custom mythology that would be part of everyday life nowadays. the thing you've discovered is like: in mythology there's an gigantic ass named X and a non-gigantic-ass named Y, now look at real life (2000 years ago): there's a gigantic ass and a non-gigantic-ass, too, looks similar to me. your observation is true, i tell ya. you know, gigantic ass doesn't care for anyone, including himself. just wants to "make it" somehow, which is sometimes misunderstood as caring for himself. treats his kids accordingly. though it could be said that gigantic ass originally did care for himself (but was very very young (and later got lost in that)). no, that wasn't meant to be comprehensive.
and your name comes from that poem of baudelaire?
perhaps i haven't quite gotten your focus? was your focus more on something like "they are the same stories made up by the same gigantic asses with the only difference of being made up in different times"? if that was your focus then i say: there is a large part of life that is not made up by man. though those parts of life may easily become conceiled for one's eyes, if one is alone and listens too much to the stuff people say. thing is: most people who had something to say (because they are true and stuff) remain silent. so if one focusses on what people say, it is likely that one ends up with thinking that those who speak, but can't speak, would be 100% of the world's population and be in charge. also: all this stuff you have to pay for and which contains language: that's optional and because it is optional you have to pay for it. if you stop buying that stuff, it simply vanishes and that's no offense, no element of criminal law. btw, i like grace zabriskie in inland empire a lot, that's the most concise and exhaustive spoken thing in any of lynch's films. and that saturn / henry / herod (and satan too, yap) and henry's child / jesus / zeus have a lot in common is an opinion i'm sharing. there is but one god.

i meant it like "there is only one life and one human being". there is extroverted / introverted / introverted & self-aware / introverted & self-aware & thinking one was the only one who was like that, one would be part of a group in a dual world, and blah blah, sorry, waq waq waq. i think there's only one road of thought that one may go down, though the road for the extroverted is rather narrow or more of a dead end. i guess the santa claus was mainly irony, an attempt to anticipate & pre-empt getting ridiculed & the wish to insert any emoticon (was the one which fitted best). but it's a message board. so it's really tough to decide whether you're writing this because you're 1) plain bored 2) making a joke 3) wanna object that i was fuckin around or 4) asking a shy question.
& perhaps i should have deleted that "and be in charge". was perhaps a bit too optimistic and an issue of caffeine & nicotine. and if 3) was the case: main thing with fuckin around is, i guess, linking singular actions to thoughts, conjuring necessary actions, as if singular actions could be derived from thinking. imo i'm not trying to evoke any kind of necessity in any of my posts. i'm no heretic, you know.

I'm saying Saturn and the moon control our brains and stop us being gods, just like David Icke says. And Lynch has picked up on that truth. All his films are about that, in some way. http://www.davidicke.com/headlines/46767-moon-rising-hd-hundreds-of-ufos Or am I messing around?

i think the desire to attach fixed, objectified words to actual human beings or supposed groups of actual human beings is messing around. you want to form a map of some kind, in order to determine where to strike, don't you? there is nothing good coming from that. and i don't like your frequent usage of words like "us", "our" and "they", at least not in that manner in which you used them. do you take that icke stuff as some kind of intellectual joke? i guess not, huh? well, i'm dumbfounded right now. so i just go waq waq waq again, since i'm a bird and there is nothing wrong with that. waq waq waq. o, my english. i thought you got back on my "fuckin around" with your "messing around". a-ha. so. ok. some moments after writing the last part just the words of that one refrain "we all become what we most dislike" began to repeat itself in my head. i don't like you anymore, albie.

yeah, you're ace at that. was there from the beginning, in post#1. didn't notice. shouldn't have entered the small-talk-section anyway. i guess it has to do sth with my english. it takes time to decipher, it takes time to form senteces, for me, i don't understand english instantly. i can't even think of small talk in english. whatever. though i still don't know what to do with your (albie) posts; but it's internet message board, so i'm blind anyway (have to type it, have to push the button, screws evth up.). and "we all become what we most dislike" ... it's like a natural law, so it fits anyway, so what.
o and that icke. there is some sense to it. it's aggravating the sins of some extroverted folks. so that they don't sit there, silent, with all their hate. so that they speak it out and own it, by owning icke's books. just have to put a frame of X years on it. so it's outspoken, so they can relate to it, so they can say "i was full of shit, but that'll stop now", because their sins were intensified because of icke, otherwise they would have led crippled lifes forever. that's the only way i can think of finding sth good in icke & the likes. but once we're here with saturn rhea eraserhead: i don't want to talk about it - don't you fuckin look at me - i always thought you knew it was me. whatever that means. what i wanted to say, albie, was something like "i'm sorry". i guess you're rather young. i didn't take that into consideration. but still, internet message board fucks with me (have to type it, have to push the button), makes me blind.

I'm 38. And I experience magic every day. Real magic. Call me a madman. It's real and the moon is not what it seems. I found a magic stone that told me so. http://albatrash.deviantart.com/gallery/?offset=72#/d2kwhly And Eraserhead is about the moon affecting mankind. Go and watch it again with that in mind.

Consider the way the Lady in The Radiator comes out of the dark and sinks back into it. How she moves from side to side. Like the moon. Her white swollen face, lumpy like the moon. Consider the constant use of the same image of a circular pool of water. The moon controls the tides. THE LADY IN THE RADIATOR. Is that a crossword clue? Notice a name? Di? Diana, the Goddess of the hunt and THE MOON. This reflects the name RHEA in ERASERHEAD. The Lady is also, patently, Marilyn Monroe. MOONroe? :) Could be nothing. Maybe I just have an imagination. Not a common thing.

To connect it further to David Icke. The scenes where the child's head is swapped with Henry's could be denoting the brain stem, or reptile brain. The part of the brain connected with basic survival. The man in the planet is a reptilian? And the child is a hybrid.

I have asserted that The Lady in the Radiator represents the moon. Now I find that the word lunar is hidden in the actresses name. Could be a coincidence. LaUrel NeAR Laurel Near.

The name Laurel has its origin in the name Lorelei. Lorelei's StoryLorelei was said to be a strikingly beautiful distressed maiden with locks of gold who sat upon the rock awaiting the return of her lover. Her unfaithful lover never returned, so she threw herself off of a cliff headfirst into the water, leading her to death. According to the legend, Lorelei’s spirit remains sitting on the rock to this day combing her beautiful long hair and singing a soft melody. Apparently, her looks are so charming that sailors passing though are distracted and before they know it, shipwrecked. They say that Lorelei lingers there seeking revenge against her lover. From time to time, a murmuring sound can be heard in the vicinity of the rock which is said to be her hypnotizing melody. The murmur is a sound that is caused by the echo of a nearby waterfall and strong currents that bounce off of the rocky shore. Lorelei’s song is rarely heard today due to the immense amount of urbanization in the past few hundred years.

I know that Lynch came up with the character of the lady in the radiator early during filming and presumably came across Laurel Near just soon after. Maybe he subconsciously linked the name Laurel to Lorielei and hence the singing blonde supernatural blonde temptress came into being. It seems odd that she would fit the myth so closely and be linked by her REAL name other than her made up name. It always seemed like a made up name. Laurel Near. Maybe that appealed to him too.
