This thread has probably been started a million times already, but mine would have to be Agent Cooper (how can he not be?), Hawk, Andy, Lucy, Albert, Dennis/Denise, Bobby, Audrey, The Log Lady, and, of course, Laura (hence, the name.) Who are yours?
Love, Laura

I'm a guy and if you ask me my favourite character in any book, movie or series (other than Twin Peaks) I would always pick a male character. But as far as Twin Peaks goes my favourite character is by far and away Laura. After that comes Dale or Bobby - I can't decide which. Then probably Audrey.

Doesn't really sound good to say that Laura is my favourite character... she is a kind of person I would NEVER want to meet in real life and if I met her I am sure I would hate her sincerely. Yet, as a character, as a type - sometimes I think more than type: ARCHETYPE! - she is not only my favourite Peaks character but perhaps my favourite character of al movie/ book. I love the way she owns the first season of the show even though she is no more than a dead person! From the magic moment that we see her beautiful face unwrapped from plastic, she remains the main character until the Giant appears - that's a breakthrough moment of the show, we focus on other things, our attention is shifted away from Laura... Yes, and speaking of Giant, he might be my number two on the favourite characters list When I was a young Twin Peaks fan my friends and I were DEFINITELY most fond of the supernatural characters. Giant, Waiter, Little Man, One-Armed Man.. well BOB of course, although again the word "fond" is quite wrong. Of course we all liked Audrey or Pete Martell but we didn't really talk about them too much, only the Lodges and such stuff ;-) So, whenever any of these weirdos would appear on screen = good episode! I am a bit older now I guess... But Giant still rocks!

I'll double-post (sorry) because it comes from a post in another topic: QUOTE (Miles in the topic about Laura as an adult): don't think it would be appropriate to use that tag (slut) or judge her. (...) Rather than judge her for her behaviour I hugely admire her strength. | Yeah, me too, but go and say it to those whom she has hurt, broken their hearts, lives perhaps. That's what I mean when I say I would hate her and also, when I say: archetype.
When I look at her as a type of character, not a real person, I admire her strength and I am completely fascinated by her. If I looked at her as a female whom I have met in real life... you know what I mean ;-)

Definitely has to be: Laura, The Log Lady, The Man from Another Place, Lucy, Andy, Dale Cooper & Audrey Horne. Although my favorite character of the whole series has to be Laura, not only because of her personality and but the fact that she is the central element to the entire show. :)

How to pick favourite characters from a series where 9 out of 10 characters are great? First I pick Cooper and Major Briggs. Both are very inspirational people. They treat everyone with great respect and try everything to be better human beings. I always love seeing these two great actors interact with each other. People with such dignity, high morals no matter what happens are really uncommon today. Then I would say BOB. One of the greatest villains in any series I´ve ever seen. Just his face with those a-lion-has-spotted-a-gazelle-and-is-ready-to-hunt eyes and that sick smile (sorry, Frank Silva ). For some reason I always find his lurking behind the bed the most shocking and nightmare-bringing scene. That would be my top 3. Of course I love Audrey, Ben, Leland, Sarah, Laura, Pete, Harry, Bobby etc. Nearly everybody. I don´t even mind James if he doesn´t went on this boring sub-plot.
I think i don´t have a problem with the main cast at all. It´s more the supporting characters that where introduced in the second half of season 2 like Evelyn Marsh and her brother/lover, Nicky, Lana and her husband etc.

Difficult question actually.. So many totally different characters who all play a part to make TP as original and fantastic as it is. But I'll say Cooper and Harry. Love how different they are but how they still fulfill eachother.
Man! Smell those trees. Smell those Douglas firs.

1. Albert Rosenfield 2. Agent Cooper 3. Leland Palmer 4. Audrey Horne 5. Bobby Briggs Albert wins, mostly because of his sarcastic and cynical attitude. He's a classical "bad cop". I just love every moment of him acting like big the a**hole antagonistic good guy of the show. Favorite line: "This particular edition features swingers clubs for standard poodle enthusiasts. No comment." About Flesh World Magazine. Haha, gotta love it. Miguel Ferrer, man... Miguel Ferrer Cooper is an obvious choice, but I think it's hard not being influenced by his dashingly optimistic presence. From a lot of different angles, he's a great role model for me. Leland is also worth mentioning. Ray Wise did a fantastic acting job here. Coming to think of it, he did the biggest variety of acting in the entire show. Starting as a broken man, becomes compulsively happy, and then a possessed monster. Equally convincing from each aspect. "A kid'll eat ivy too wouldn't yooou?" Audrey Horne.. well duuh?? She, if anybody, makes my palms itch. Me, like a lot fan boys, had the deepest and weirdest crush on her. Besides, a good girl gone bad is always a treat. No wonder Lara Flynn Boyle hated her, I mean Twin Peaks was suppose to be her show right? And then Bobby. Well, I guess it's because he is stereotypical jock, popular among the chicks, a bully and a immature prick - but also a complete loser who manage to screw up all the time. Plus I like his ridiculously floppy 90's hairstyle and him walking backwards in FWWM.
Others worth mentioning are Major Briggs and Gordon Cole, I like how these men, just like Cooper, seems so different from how one imagines them. Instead of stone-cold secretive people, blinded by their patriotic spirit, they're more like... well... hippies? Then we have The Log Lady, Dr. Jacoby, BOB, MIKE and ofc, The Man from Another Place.
HOLY SMOKES, MY SOCKS ARE ON FIRE!!!

yeah, what about Harold? I saw someone mentioning him in the "least favourite" thread. But for me he has always been among the favourites. He appears in those episodes 10-12, which I found in another thread to be "the earliest drop of Twin Peaks level" - I like these episodes but not as much as the ones before and the ones afterwards... And within these episodes Harold Smith is for me the most interesting part and I mean: by far the most interesting part. First of all I like the creation of his character. A man who only appears in one scenery, but this scenery is very intriguing. You can almost smell the heavy scent of his orchids and how warm it must be inside. Kind of hypnotizing, and I think this is the way it worked for Donna, too, from time to time (the scene when she tells him the memory about Josh Rick and Tim is fabulous!). A man whose very face suggests seeeeecrets. A man who perhaps knows more about Laura than all the other characters that we have met in the previous episodes. He is a surprise, his appearance in itself. I like the performance, too. Lenny von Dohlen perhaps sometimes, sometimes makes it a little bit over the top but in most cases his acting works great. The way he is tense and full of fear, but also the way he seems to be a warm person. The way he approaches Donna (pretty directly, one must admit). It must have been a very difficult role to play, after all - he MUST have been a downright weird man! Uncanny - I think it's a word that Lynch used and liked, and it describes Harold very well. And then I really like his scenes and the way they are made. Josh Rick and Tim most of all, but also most of the other scenes where he gets to know Donna better. Always this smell of orchids in the air. And I do get shivers at the end of Ep.12 when he scratches his face and says about "the ultimate secret". His words "you are unclean" stick in my mind and keep impressing me after all these years. You like him?
