Montana Getting logged out automatically

Am I the only person to get logged out halfway through writing a longish post? This also happens sometimes when I PM. This is not like after browsing the board for 30m - this is within 15m of logging on.

What's the time-out on being logged and is there any chance of specifying a period? I have taken to writing anything longer than one paragraph on Word/notepad and pasting it over...not ideal.

Thanks,

Montana

Time out is 20 minutes I believe.

this is an ongonig complaint that I've not been able to ducplicate. I know it happens often when writing a PM and I think I know why, but outside of that, I don't know what the exact problem is.

One thing that I believe fixes this problem is making sure that you check "remember me" when you login.

Thanks, Jordan. I don't like the "remember me" function because it allows other people in the house to log on as me without knowing the password. That says more about the circumstances of my life rather than anything in particular about TPG. I take it there isn't any other solution on the horizon?

At the moment, there's no solution on the nearby horizon because I just don't have the time at the moment. One idea is to go ahead and click REMEMBER ME when you login which will ensure you stay login, but then go ahead and remember to LOGOUT when you are done. That's an easy workaround I think - just don't forget to click LOGOUT.

I'll try that, Jordan!

>CCC, hey buddy, that someone-logged-in-under-my-name is my only excuse for my more embarrassing posts... (i.e. most of them).

I have the same log-out problem.

What I do is after having finished a long post is: I open a new window, check if I have been logged out, and if so - I log in again, then refresh the window with the post (for security better copy it, too). I've had this problem for a looong time on another message board. Strange as nobody else seemed to have had that over there. It disappeared.. without anyone's intervention. Strange.

Although I log myself in when I intend to write and post a message, the moment I'm actually posting the message appears "You must be logged in to post".

Fortunately, I have started to save every text prior to posting. If that happens, I just log in again, click on "post reply" and paste the saved text / answer into the field.

I can find a positive aspect to this bug: Noisy people that come here with the intention to disrupt the message board won't go any further and let it be.

The downside is, of course, that newbies can be discouraged to participate because they get fed up with the problem.

My proposal / vote would be to advice newbies in the first registration e-mail about the problem. It still is some extra work, but somebody who thinks he or she has to say something important will be able to deal it with it (and hopefully "noisy" people will still be kept out of the forum...)
