That is exciting. The music of DL and Chrysta Bell played on (not in, but ON) a geodesic dome?

www.massensemble.com That giant harp is really something. Thanks for the heads up, Gordon!

Hm. I figured after the "Neff Fiasco" last year, everyone knew about this. Heck, even WIP reprinted the conversation we had here...

Yes, neff fiasco, Def,: 1 part reality, 2 parts mixup, one part tragedy. Put them all in a blender and puree the f**k out of it. Great recipe.

This thread has opened old wounds.  Any news on Christa Bell will have to come from outside sources ;)

Looks like her site might not be active anymore. I just got a 'Page Not Found' message.

Well, Dave and I did three songs that Chrysta came in and sang on (Does that make them 'hers'?). We shot videos of them at a club where we did a scene from "Inland Empire". Some of it was supposed to be in the movie, I guess, I never got a definitive answer. We were supposed to finish a CD project with her last year, but it never happened. The videos were supposed to go to some media outlet, I never heard which if any had been contacted. The songs were supposed to be released to iTunes this year, as well as some Rebekah Del Rio stuff that we did. When the contract arrived it was horrendous and was rejected. I have only heard from his attorney that the releases have been cancelled and I believe they will not be in the film either. I have also heard that she is recording new stuff with David that I am not a part of. This is all I know.

None of the tracks sound nearly as nice as her contribution to INLAND EMPIRE.

The Neff Fiasco sounds positively sci-fi. I'm thinking small town America, I'm thinking nefarious government experiment, I'm thinking strange things happening to the fabric of time and space... Big budget films have been green-lit with sketchier outlines than that (Alien 3)... but I digress...

Polish Poem was one of my favourite things about INLAND EMPIRE (one of many favourite things, I hasten to add - I'm not one of the haters) but the clips on the Strange Darling MySpace page remind me of LeAnn Rimes. Much is made of DL being the 'executive producer' but it doesn't sound like he was involved in the writing and recording of it. Even the video version of Polish Poem ('re-imagined on the other side') is charmless. I'm also bewildered as to why the official website contains no music but does feature an extensive photo gallery (oh okay, I'm not really, I was just being rhetorical). Yes Chrysta Bell's a lovely young thing but the clips scream 'springboard' rather than 'lifelong passion for music'. i know that sounds terribly judgemental but it's the music that said it, not me. I miss Julee Cruise.

This project, Strange Darling, is not the project Dave and I started with Chrysta in 2003. This is a whole new production, that was apparently mastered by an Englishman named Lee Fletcher.
