I just rented the first volume(first two episodes) and am about to start watching it.  It looks damn good to me, and is chuck full of some of my favorite actors.

Well I must say after watching the first episode it's one of the best shows I have seen in awhile, although, with such a good start its hard to think they have anywhere to go but down.  Michael J. Anderson is perfect in his role of Samson, and Nick Stahl(who was the only person that made That yellow Bastard story in Sin city worth watching, other than just looking at Jessica Alba's fine ass) is amazing.  I give it my full endorsement(don't know how much that is worth) after watching just one episode.

I thought Carnivale was a fantastic series and I was damn sad to see it end. There are some spots were it lags a little in the first season, but the second season was just sheer brilliance. One day, when HBO decides they're done ass-raping people with their DVD set prices, I might actually buy the whole series, but for now I'm content with the memories. (would it kill HBO to rerun it now and then?!)

i posted about carnivale somewhere else on this forum.  believe me, it only gets better. i'm sure it would have gone even higher if it didn't get the axe. it sort of runs similar to Lost. the first season builds the suspense and reveals little things here and there. and then the second season gets into the real meat of the story. unfortunately, it ends with some things still unknown.

I thought it was one of the best shows to come out in the last few years. If you enjoy seeing a show reach such an incredible creative peak and then cut out from under you after two seasons (sound familiar) then Carnivale is for you. Amanda is right...the pacing of the first season is pretty slow, but the second season takes off like a freight train and doesn't stop. I think the main reason the pacing seemed so much faster is because the first season set everything up and then second season had so many f-ing plot twists it rolls right along. I picked up the first season on E-bay and according to the little flier that came with the final season of Six Feet Under DVD, the second season will be out on DV some time this year.

yeah I love it.  After watching the first two episodes I was gonna go buy the DVD's, but they are just insanely expensive.  Actually cheaper to pay five bucks a piece to rent them all.

I will have to watch this show some time, as I've heard so much good about it.

Also heard that 'Rome' is a good show.

Yeah I just started watching Rome today, its not as good as Carnivale or Deadwood IMO, but still a good show.  I'm so glad Deadwood is back.

I just started getting in to it as well and I really like it. I think the casting is impeccible, there is not one weak actor on the whole show. I agree that it did lag a little in the first season but never so much that it made me impatient. My favorite characters are Brother Justin played by the amazing Clancy Brown (who, IMHO, should get more starring roles. He knocks this one out of the effing park) and Samson played by our own Michael J Anderson. According to Amazon, the second season comes out july 16 for 70 bucks I think. i'm such a tv on dvd whore that I might just dish it out.

I just watched the first 3 episodes of Carnivàle. It looks like a good show so far and I can't judge it fully without watching the whole thing. I'll get back to it.

I just purchased and watched the second season of Carnivale. I watched the first season religiously, but during the run of the second season I was in a position where I was unable to see a single episode.

After the second season ended it's run on my dvd player, I was more than a little steamed that it was cancelled. Sure, itr was the most expensive show on TV and didn't have the viewership that Sex and the City and The Sopranos had, but that could be due to Carnivale being something completley original and unlike anything that had ever been produced for television or in the cinema before.

Velouria and I have been scrambling all over trying to find any information on a proposed third season or how the story could continue. There were talks about a four part mini-series and a movie for HBO. But this story certainly needs considerably more time to give it's cast of characters their due and to give it's story the justice it deserves.

It hurts when such a breathtakingly original show is cut short. The dvd special features on the second season have some priceless moments between HBO producers and Carnivale's creator about how terrible it is when you're reading an 850 page book and someone comes along when you are 0n poage 400 and chucks the book out the window.

I've looked for information and hints that Carnivale may be resurrected in some form in years to come. I am not holding out hope. If anyone out there knows something or hasd any information regarding the continuation please let me know. I'm just a bit heart broken and trying not to sink into denile.

 Thanks.

Great...now I want to go out and buy the second season...I was going to hold off because there is no third season, but after hearing how passionate Req was about the show (and I was equally passionate about it when it was on and equally steamed when I heard it was getting axed). I didn't know, however, that it was the most expensive show on television and thinking about its grand scale in my head right now, that doesn't seem so unlikely. So, whenever I make it through the Monty Python set and the first season of The Closer with my roomie's gal...I see myself purchasing Carnivale. I really, really want to see it again...I only saw it the one time when it originally aired and have been looking forward to giving it a second viewing.

I watched part of the first episode and I thought it sucked.  I wanted to like it, but just could not get into it.  I did the same thing with Kingdom Hospital.

Carnivale was fantastic.  Clancy Brown blew me away and when I realised it was the same man who did the voice of Eugene Krabs in Spongebob Squarepants*, I wanted to lick his face over and over.

*Yeah ok, so it took me a while to realise.  Bear with me, I'm British...

Clancy was also great in a little mini-series on NBC called Love, Lies and Murder starring him, Sheryl Lee and Moira Kelly. Not to mention his great performance in The Shawshank Redemption. His role as Brother Justice is the best thing he has done, IMO and how he and Amy Madigan work off each other as brother and sister is simply wonderful. I guess I'll have to watch the first sometime before October when the second season arrives at my door with the first season of Big Love.

I thought the original Danish version of Kingdom Hospital was much better. You can get it on dvd it's called Riget.

Also, I think Carnivale is one of those shows you can't just watch part of to "get it". You definately have to be in it for the long haul. And I think the second season was really amazing!!!!

**possible spoilers** if you haven't seen all 24 episode, I wouldn't read this...

I watched one of the featurettes on the second season DVDS (currently I am 7 episodes deep in my re-watching of season 1) and at the end there was some mention of what would happened had there been a season 3. First off, the creator Daniel Knauf described the final confrontation between Ben Hawkins and Brother Justin as the "first battle" and that as avatars they were in their adolescent stage. Interesting, huh? One of the writers went on to describe that season 3 would focus a lot on Sophie. Considering she is the Omega, there is some good in her as well as evil, even if she is the daughter of Brother Justin. Appearently, only avatars can be men and females ones have different names. That is why Lodz was saying "That's impossible" when he was talking to Apollonia near the end of season one, because Sophie is a female avatar, which isn't supposed to be possible. Also, women who give birth to avatar usually go loopy in one way or another, like Apollonia, Sophie's mother for instance. So, in season 3, Sophie's internal struggle would be the hallmark and since she raises her dear daddy from the dead at the end of season 2, it would have been interesting to see how that would have played out. That is all for now.

this is such a great series! a pretentious premise told in an incredibly authentic way. I still have 3 episodes until the end and am anticipating anxiously how it will unfold.
