I thought it might be good to have a topic on Lynch and music - or rather, people who have sampled or referenced DL's music. Apologies if this was covered on the old board but I haven't seen this on the current board.

Two very obvious ones and one obscure one:

"Go" - Moby (samples)
"In Heaven" - Pixies (live version of Lynch's Eraserhead song)
"Fleshworld" - The Wedding Present (reference to TP, released on CD of "Seamonsters", not the best track - there was a reason why is was originally a b-side - but not bad at all)

Oh, can we exclude DL soundtracks and Badalamente/DL/Cruse stuff and list stuff that might be new to people?

The Wedding Present (again!) covered Falling on one of their singles. I think they even played it live on their most recent tour.

Coming full circle on the Pixies; David used their song Ana for a scene in a roughcut of Lost Highway, which was replaced by the Billy Corgan track in the finished film. IMO Pixies worked better...

And a strange, though possibly intentional, synchronicity saw part of Louis Theroux's program using The Beast - the song which is playing when Adam Kesher returns home and fights his wife in bed with the pool cleaner. Since Louis theroux is Justin's cousin, it seemed a strange coincidence that they both have the same (obscure) song playing on their shows...

John Peel also played a techno record in the early 90s a few times which repeatedly used a sample of the One Armed Man saying 'Fire Walk With me'. Can't remember the name of the song or artist though...

DJ Shadow's 'What Does Your Soul Look Like, Pt. 1: Blue Sky Revisit' has the ending of a Twin Peaks episode at it's end. It has the giant saying "It is happening again. It is happening again." with the sound of Leland's record player at the end of it's record.

Marilyn Manson's Wrapped In Plastic has a few TP references in the lyrics and in the lyric booklet alongside them. It also has a few samples from the show I think. Definitely Laura's scream, and possibly the LMFAP laughing.

Heptet did a ska version of Pennsylvania 6-5000 with a Ben/Audrey exchange opening it.  2 of my fave Lynch-inspired tunes are Eraserhead by Bruce McCullough  & Ye Old Elephantman by Webb Wilder. Seek them out. Oh & reunited Turtles did a live version of She's My Girl, with an intro that affectionately spoofs Peaks.

There's a band that live not far from me called "Close Your Eyes And You'll Burst Into Flames".
They're very, very good.

Then there's a US band called "ArmsBendBack" too, a European Alice In Chains-type band called "Audrey Horne", a US grind band called "Laura Palmer". My favourite band SkyCameFalling have an amazing song called "Laura Palmer" too.

A band called Caliban have a song called "Between The Worlds" which reference singing owls, fire walk with me, and burning oil in the lyrics. They're from Germany. Then a UK band called xCanaanx sampled Mike's poem right at the start of their album. There's loads more too, but none that i can think of right now.....

if this site hadn't crashed last year, i made a post where i compiles a bunch of stuff, namely, about 30 or so songs that covered and/or were influenced by, or sampled Twin Peaks. I'll have to check live journal to see if i posted it there.

some random bands that come to mine that no one mentioned: Marilyn Manson, Apoptygma Berzerk, Xorcist, a bunch of other goth bands....Apop does an interpretation of the Twin Peaks Theme with new lyrics and vocal patterns called Moment of Tranquility off of their Welcome to Earth album.

I dunno if it's directly inspired by Lynch, but the Queens of the Stone Age tune "Like a Drug" (a UK-only bonus on the latest album) has been described as "Lynchian" in several reviews.....

Has he taken his eyes off it yet?

Speaking of Queens of the Stone Age, I always found the video for The Lost Art of Keeping a Secret reminiscent of Lost Highway. I doubt it was influenced at all but it just reminded me of the film when i first saw it.

Different Lynch, but The Misfits have a track titled "Helena" which is about Boxing Helena by Jennifer Lynch - "If i cut off your arms, and I cut off your legs, would you still love me, anyway? If you're bound and you're gagged, draped and displayed, would you still love me, love me anyway? Why don't you love me anyway?"

Oh, and I don't know if they've ever officially recorded it, but Dream Theater used to often open up their live gigs with the theme from Twin Peaks.

Wait, I got one more!

Bomb The Bass make a reference to Agent Cooper in the track "Bug Powder Dust" - but then again, they pretty much reference everything from popular culture +/- 5 years from 1990 in that track...!

I've made a 20 minute long EP on my take of Mullholland Drive, if anyone wants to hear it, I can upload it somewhere.
