I just found this on Amazon. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/1841958387/202-2047539-5609469?v=glance&n=266239 Anyone else looking forward to this? The thing that concerns me is that it is only 128 pages (compared with Crimson's 800+) so will it just be a frustrating glimpse at the characters? I know Crimson had a very unresolved ending to say the least, but I kind of liked not knowing what would happen. (Although I was very concerned about poor Agnes.)

I don't know how much more could be expanded upon in 128 pages that would add so much to the story. It had a perfectly fine ending as far as I am concerned. But maybe I just feel that way because It took me six months to finish the damn book because of my horrifying lack of concentration. The ending was appropriate to the story without dwelling too much on the ending of the relationship. The book is so dense because it already goes into such rich detail about the characters. I dont want this book to venture into painful dickens territory. The only book that I can think of that I would like a little companion piece to is The Time Travelers Wife. I couldn't get enough of those characters. I will just take a new Audrey Niffeneggar book period though....

I read The Apple: New Crimson Petal Stories this evening and I really enjoyed it. I devoured it hungrily over a couple of hours. In no way is it a sequel; it leaves a lot of satisfying gaps in the story - Sugar remains elusive in this collection. I think the best stories are the ones that take place before Crimson Petal ('Christmas in Silver Street' is probably my favourite.) In another story the fate of one character is revealed so abruptly it actually brought tears of shock to my eyes. Well worth reading if you enjoyed Petal.
