Being that I love Johnny Depp (Deli and I are supposed to jello wrestle over him in Ottawa, Ontario if anyone is interested) and that I love this character, I will definately be going to see this flick!  Maybe on Friday, maybe not...

I'm SO THERE to take pictures! :D WOO! Chick wrestling rules...

I will probably end up waiting to see this one on DVD only because I can't seem to find the time to get to the theater this summer. :(

And for some reason, the title "Dead Man's Chest" makes me think of porn. Don't ask.

Sure, as long as you promise not to hound me about seeing this film like everyone else I've ever met.

Now, I have nothing against big blockbusters or pirates per se, and Johnny Depp is a fine actor, but nothing turns me off from a film more than the feeling that it's my obligation as an American consumer to go see it four times. No matter how fine Keira Knightly may happen to look wielding a sword.

I loved the 1st one and I loved this one as well.  I admittedly had no interest in seeing the first one and then when I watched it on DVD, I was surprised how much I liked it.

DMC was not as action packed as the last one although they tried their best, but it had a decent story and ended with the promise of a part 3, which was lame.  I liked it a lot.  I have this thing for Pirates though

We saw it this weekend, and personally, I wasn't all that impressed. It definitly wasn't action packed, and it just bored me. Like Leo's Girl said, they have left it open for a 3rd installment.

I tend to stay away from films that are being forced into my head by the media.

Some of the best movies ever have been forced into heads by media.  Just because Disney has it doesn't mean it's bad.  I just came back from Disney world and if anyone should have been burned out on this movie before seeing it...

I remember feeling that way about movies and music and "Oh it's popular...back off."  But what kind of life is that?  Not wanting to do things because people like to.

ps.  is it wrong to be in love with a fictional character.  I have been in an afterglow all day.

It's official. According to EW, Verbinski is already filming Pirates 3.

Here's the article:

The concluding chapter of the Pirates trilogy reportedly subtitled At the World's End, is still being filmed, but Verbinski offers some hits as to where the story will sail. In broad thematic terms, he says, "Piracy itself is at stake. It's like te reailroad is coming to the West." Specifically, the film will delve deeper into the backstory of Davy Jones - "he's a tragic figure, who's been devastated by love," says Nighly - while also bringing the unfolding romantic drama between Will and Elizabeth to a climax.

"They realize love is something that hurts," Verbinski says, "and there are things they have to overcome if the relationship is to last." (Those darker shades are a welcome development for Bloom, who says he was frustrated on the first film at being simply "The upright, straitlaced, naive Will Turner,") Expect plenty of eye-popping set pieces, of course - including a converence of the world's pirate leaders and a treacherous journey to the literal ends of the earth. And cout there be a fourth movie? Verbinski says no: "By the end of the third one, I'm hoping there's no reason to ever make a pirate movie again." Depp, however, is leaving the door open a creack: "You don't want it to be Rocky 12, certainly. But you never say never."

Don't get me wrong... I do love some popular stuff but most of it, in my opinion, tends to be a load of dog crap. I love some Disney films... it's not because it's Disney that I don't like it. (Lion King <3)

I just hate the way things appear to be now... a lot of things get the hype they don't deserve.

Well, people have to make money somehow and pushing their movies is one way to do it.  Especially if it's Disney.  I think it's wrong to push these movies on kids when it's rated PG-13.  I mean, my daughter is one brave little girl, but what about these 5 year olds getting Happy Meal Toys for a movie they can't see.  Now that's just rude.  But this movie deserves some hype because of the big names and most likely big bucks that went into it.

I agree that you never even hear of many movies that are absolutely wonderful.  Sometimes movies I have never even heard of win awards.  That stinks!

But just because it does get publicity doesn't mean it isn't any good.

A good pirate movie should have lots of graphic sex and violence. The first one didn't blow my skirts up, I'll be giving this one a miss.

I thought the first one was okay. The best bit being Johnny Depp's performance as Keith Richards - I think it would've made a great 3 minute, Fast Show sketch - but not really the basis for a movie franchise IMO.

I'd like to see the beautiful Kiera Knightley put on a few pounds, I'm sure she'd look even more stunning.

Well, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The crew of the Flying Dutchman were like something out of a Lovecraft wet dream. And, yes, Keith will be making a cameo as Jack's dad in #3.  Hype be damned, I go see something because I wanna (I skipped every Star Wars movie after the disappointment of #1).  P.O.T.C. is just fabulously entertaining. I have an unfinished play about someone trying to make a sexy pirate movie called All Hands on Dick (also the play's title). Pick up this month's Bizarre: there's a big article on pirate flicks (including some porn).  Maybe they'll make an animated version of S. Clay Wilson's old Cap'n Pissgums underground "funnies"...

There was a great article on Johnny Depp in Rolling Stone.  He talked about the "flamboyant" acting as Captain jack.

Also there have been real Pirate stories on the HIstory channel, which have been very good.
