I just found out about this and was going to make a post as well.

I am very depressed by this news. I have held Syd Barrett at the most iconic of levels for so very very long.
I can't even begin to explain how much this man meant in my life

Ditte: well, I'm in love with a board member

Man...that's terrible news. :( I think some Pink Floyd is in order. Rest in peace, Syd.

after syd left the band, just wondering if anyone was collecting lp's? I have 2, dark side of the moon which has a poster, sticker, some kind of cool cover for the lp slip & also the wall, my brother gave me & my twin sis for our 16th birthday with a green ribbon wrapped with goodies :)  wont say what it was but it was dreamy!

Actually, I was surprised he was still alive. But, yeah, too bad. So sad. And I don't know if he named the band (he was their unofficial leader, yes?). Thought I heard they were named after an obscure delta blues singer.

I did not know until now.  Wow, it is shame, even though he lost his mind, and was doing very little now, he was still an important acidrock legend.  "saucerful of secrets" is great, and "madcap laughs" should not be missed.  I'll always cherish these albums. His story was twisted and sad. Without Syd Barrett's early musical ramblings, Pink Floyd never might have been.
