I saw it.  I've wanted to see El Topo forever, but it's not on dvd as far as know yet. The DOC. was good for people who have not heard about these films. Some of us need to see the important  gateway films before we can seriously call ourselves connoisseurs of film. In Buffalo sometimes there are midnight movie nights, I saw Dead Alive last summer, it was cool to see it on a  big screen with a sold crowd, but they could not afford to keep it going very long. Buffalo also has a few drive-ins, they only play new releases though. The Mid-Night movies is nearly dead here and it is pretty sad.

This was a good doc, I too want to see El Topo now, looks really interesting. There's a theater in Houston that does midnight movies (and it's probably going to be torn down), but frankly I find Netflix a much better venue for discovering new and interesting films, if you don't like it you can just send it back.

I just watched Unkown White Male.  It was about a man with psychogenic amnesia.  They talk about fugue states, too.  Very, very interesting.  I can see how this kind of mental disturbance can inspire a movie, as in the case of Lost Highway.

Girl 27

Talk about dark Hollywood secrets. Sad and horrible in a similar vein as the Black Dahlia murder (if that was studio related, then this leaves no question as to why that perp was never brought to justice.)

This is about a rape cover-up at MGM in the late 30s that destroyed an entire family.  It is honestly one of the best docs I've ever seen.  The filmmaker co-wrote a Harlow biography with Jackie O and became incredibly close with the severely depressed, isolated victim 65 years later.  It's very personal and real, which is rare to see in the journalism field

Watch it for the studio culture history, too. There's fascinating footage and anectodes.

Great docs at SIFF 2008: The Wrecking Crew (on the legendary LA session musicians), A Wink & A Smile (about the Seattle Burlesque scene), Lush Life (about Billy Strayhorn) & Letting Go of God (Julia Sweany's conversion to secular humanism). And that's just the tip!!!

Did anybody in the UK watch "My Street" last night on More4? One of the most touching documentaries i've seen in a long time, and such a lovely idea too. For those not in the UK, see if you can get this online.

Basically, some lady in London didn't know anybody else on her street, so she took her camera and went to go meet them all and find out their stories (with the exception of a few people who didn't want to be filmed). There was a young man with tourettes who was lovely (such a tragic story), an old Polish man who lived alone, his wife having died not so long ago, a talented young woman who does voice work trying to find love online, and lots more. Everybody's story is so touching, me and my girlfriend were moved immensely.

Essential if you can get hold of it. I'm sure it will be repeated on the same channel within a couple of weeks. More4 usually do that "second chance viewing" thing.

Cool thread...

Mr. Death: The Rise and Fall of Fred A. Leuchter, Jr. is a cool doc. about a guy who tried to prove the holocaust didn't happen. Just a strange character study that is creepy and grotesque.
