I really don't get this Oliver Stone flick. I know it's supposed to be a cult movie, it has such a great cast and it's a story by Tarantino, who's always writing and directing great flicks, but I don't know, this movie seemed to encourage violence to me.

How could two killers like Mickey and Mallory, who only cared about themselves and killed people for no reason could get tons of fans around the world? I can get the movie tagline "The media made them superstars". But two killers having lots of people who admire what they do it's a very different thing. One thing is to be known around the world, another is get fans, especially if you're a psycho. It's like the movie's saying "It's cool to don't give a fuck about anything and just hit the road shooting people". I might be wrong but that's how I see this movie for now.

haven't seen the film in a great while, but I do remember that it reminded me of the classic bonnie & clyde film in a way.

they were in love, very dangerous.  have ya ever seen the film bonnie & clyde? check it out. some of the locations were filmed here not far from where I live, like 10 miles, one scene  where clyde tries to rob the 1st bank. that building is still there, it's now a custom boot place. or used to be. anyway, I like bonnie & clyde film much better. I don't look up at them as special people, but they are  well known historic killers/robbers during the depression days.

I haven't seen it yet. I do plan on seeing it seeing as Quentin Tarantino is up there with the greats like David Lynch. Infact they are the only two greats in my list.

I bought the director's cut for my roomie for his birthday but have yet to check it out...I tried to watch it a second time (only saw it once when it was first released on video)...but the disc was scratched and I didn't get all the way through it, hence the birthday gift...I can count the Oliver Stone films I can stomach on one hand, but NBK is definitely one of them...

That's because it does promote violence.  It came out during the death culture of Gen X.  But I think Oliver Stone was trying to do a black comedy and a black comedy always shows what is wrong with a system.  The system in this film being the Media.  I am at work, so I have to go now.  I will write more on this film later.  Also good black comedies always end where people don't get the revelation:  A Clockwork Orange.  Network.  Sorry, got to go.  Catch you later.

I love how other people hate this film, but I don't always agree with Olivers rides, this one is a good time, and also not extreme enough, it does not hold up over short times, surreal or spelled out. I have not seen this one in a while, and always enjoyed...

...I think this film is really fun time, watch with some friends...

My three favorite black comedies: 1) Dr. Strangelove 2) Network (one of the greatest screenplays ever!! Who thought Bill Holden and Bob Duvall could be so funny) and 3) Amanda, do you want to tell them? It's Heathers, baby!! I think Wild At Heart is a great dark comedy also and I'll throw in American Psycho...it might not be considered one, but I laugh my ass off every time I watch it..."Try to get a reservation at Dorcea now, you stupid f-ing bastard!"...Another dark comedy I really liked recently that I think a lot of people didn't was Novacane with Steve Martin & Laura Dern...

I really liked this film when it came out, but haven't really been moved to see it again. I love the cast, especially Robert Downey Jr. as the Geraldo-type character, and the scene in the weird green-tinted drugstore. The style was almost too gonzo, with the 12 different film stocks, edits every 2-seconds, etc.  There was a slew of films about killer couples around this time, Kalifornia, True Romance, Love and a 45 (yuk)... I think people got sick of the whole thing, none of them are as good as Wild at Heart, of course. Besides JFK, i'm not a big fan of Stone's, although he did work on the scripts for Scarface and Conan, yes!

If you want to see a good violent 90's movie, try Freeway, with a young Reese Witherspoon, Kiefer "24" Sutherland, and the inimitable Dan Hedaya.
