The Reminder - Feist
5:55 - Charlotte Gainsbourg (this is technically a repurchase...I have the import version and wanted the US version because it has two extra songs...and I LOVE her voice...)

Not in stores yet but legal nonetheless;

Era Vulgaris - Queens of the Stone Age

Groovy bastards indeed and such a relief it's not a Lullabies part 2.

For my burfday:

Living in the Material World- George Harrison
A re-release with a DVD.

The Best of Elvis Costello: The First Ten Years
Because when he came to my town, I noticed an embarrassing lack of any of his music in my collection, barring a single song on the Austin Powers 2 soundtrack. This is a good start.

only 24 days until the new Recoil CD arrives at me doorstep!!

new releases on the horizon that interest Smokey

July 10th - Time on Earth, a brand new Crowded House CD with a new drummer (who used to play with Beck) to replace the lamentably lost Paul Hester

July 17th - We Are The Night, the latest offering by The Chemical Brothers

and WOOHOO!! also on the 17th a brand new modern Manhattanite opus from Suzanne Vega called Beauty and Crime, she always takes 5 years or so to put out new CDs, but Songs in Red and Gray was well worth the wait, let's hope this one is too.

Heh. New releases on the horizon that not only interest me, I've also pre-ordered:

Exciter and Ultra remastered releases from Depeche Mode. The last two of the remastered series, which bums me out because they didn't do a remaster of 101 nor Songs of Faith and Devotion Live. Bummer.

The Traveling Wilburys: Deluxe Edition

F*ck yeah.

Instant Karma: The Amnesty International Campaign To Save Darfur

I'll have to reserve judgment until I listen to it. Green Day's Working Class Hero has gotten a lot of airplay, and I like it. I heard R.E.M.'s #9 Dream on Youtube, and was underwhelmed. There's such a wide range of artists, that it can't help but be hit-and-miss.

Just got my Volta by bjork.  It's like a cross between Homogenic and the Drawing Restraint soundtrack but with less of a musical conscience.  Some of it is really really wild.  Great appearance by Antony as well.

Shame about the packaging (ie... you have to deface it to get it open... i'ts got a sticker holding it shut) but I love that she's releasing everything in Dolby surround versions these days!!!!

I am likely to miss the main event

Travis...The Boy With No Name, from iTunes

Am I the only one who has given up for the most part on buying actual CD's and just buying them from iTunes?

+1 on QUOTSA - Era Vulgaris, another solid disc from the Queens

Battles - Mirrored is a great one, like a cross between Mouse on Mars, Yes and Primus.

Ha! Love it!

I think if the artist (or the producer, but usually in the case of the musicians I buy, the artist) has gone to the trouble of turning their packaging into part of the work, I really love to have it.  For me, iTunes (while convenient, I'm sure), is like downloading a novel and printing it out at home.  Even if you get it nicely bound at the nearest Printworks, and even though the content is exactly the same, there's just something missing in the whole experience.

And I'm talking as a rabid iPodder who takes all those Cds and loads them into his iPod anyway.

If you haven't heard EC's Imperial Bedroom, check it out. But his stuff is all good.

Queens of the Stone Age - Era Vulgaris (jury's out - but all QOTSA albums are growers!)

The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead (rather disappointed in it)

Electronic - Get The Message: The Best of.... (great stuff, was only £3, bought it only because I don't have Disappointed on CD)
