You should get that on soon...it's the best CD of the post-Berry era...although I do really like Around the Sun...they are in the studio now working on a new CD...

Rated R - Queens of the Stone Age

Songs for the Deaf - Queens of the Stone Age

Beauty & Crime - Suzanne Vega

Time on Earth - Crowded House

We Are The Night - The Chemical Brothers

reviews for the new CDs will be forthcoming

I should be fully prepared for a full set by the Queens when I see them perform with Rage Against The Machine at the end of August

Von Sudenfed - Tromatic Reflexxions
German duo Mouse on Mars teams up with Mark E Smith of The Fall, the former exploring some interesting pop and acoustic leanings, as well as airing some b-list material that would have tainted a straight MoM release, the latter's slurring vocals getting time-stretched and delayed until just another buzzing cog in the thumping machine. Overall, quite an entertaining experiment.

Regarding QOTSA live, they always sound great in TV performances (SNL and the recent Rollins Show particularly, I'm sure they're on YouTube) but I was disappointed by the their set opening for NIN in '05, which seemd to be mostly jams rather than album tracks. Maybe I caught them on an off night, but if you are hoping to hear "Sick, Sick, Sick", much less an older gem like "Lost Art of Keeping a Secret", don't hold your breath.

I saw NIN on that tour and Queens were okay, like you said, but I was there to see NIN and wasn't really paying much attention to Queens. I am hoping since, reportedly, they are both doing full sets (them and Rage Against The Machine) I am hoping they will do a "normal" setlist...I think they are a pretty good band, enough to buy a couple of their CDs, but as with NIN, I am going primarily to see Rage since I never got to see them when they were aroudn the first time...but thanks for thinking about me Mr. Suave....

...haven't bought any CDs lately gonna wait for all the goodies I got coming from E-bay before I go nuts again...

I just bought The Essential Leonard Cohen because I lent all my Cohen to an ex-boyfriend a couple years ago and never got them back and have been relying on the few MP3's I'd ripped to my PC plus some half-assed compilations a friend made for me. Now I'm in a full-on Cohen-withdrawal (complete with shakes and night sweats) and needed my fix. Woo!

Additional bonus: I ordered Inland Empire at the same time as Cohen so I got a mailbox full of goodness when the shipment arrived. Shiny.

Got one of the new Elvis Costello compilations, Rock And Rock Music, and George Harrison's Cloud 9.

KT Tunstall's latest comes out next week, and the REM live album is on its way this fall too. Can't wait!

Drastic Fantastic - KT Tunstall

From the first track, you can tell that this is upping the sonic ante a bit from her last album. I doubt this will take its predecessor's spot in my heart, but I dig the sound.

Reveal - R.E.M.

My initial reaction to this album is... Yawn. It might grow on me like Up, or it might get put in the "rare rotation" pile with Out of Time.

Finally picked up Touring the Angel: Live in Milan by DM. It's mostly a DVD set with a "bonus" CD of live tracks, but whatever.

The Envoy and Stand in the Fire

Two recent Warren Zevon rereleases. Aside from some troublesome early 80's synthesizers on the former, they both rock. Though none of the songs on Envoy are nearly as memorable as, say, Excitable Boy's tracks. "Ain't That Pretty At All" was better rendered by The Pixies on a Zevon tribute album.

Release The Stars- Rufus Wainwright

Annoyingly over-orchestrated on most of these songs. "Going to a Town", which was released as a single, is the one really notable exception.
