Finally made an effort to pick up a copy of Mark Knopfler's latest, Kill to Get Crimson. Loving it after hearing pre-release tracks from it all summer.

Wait for Eternal Kingdom by Cult Of Luna and buy that, i've got it on promo and it sounds epic. Such a relief after the pile of crap that was Somewhere Along The Highway. I haven't heard new Opeth yet though, i'm not their biggest fan, i only own Still Life which is pretty cool. I prefer Katatonia to be honest.

I am in the midst of an early-30s life crisis and have reverted to getting old heavy metal CDs from the 80s like Metallica, Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Dio, Motley Crue, Van Halen, and some 70s like Black Sabbath.

I also bought The Wombats' album, and We Started Nothing by The Ting Tings; 19 by Adele and Rockferry by Duffy.

My theory by A. Elk, brackets, Miss, brackets. This theory goes as follows and begins now. All brontosauruses are thin at one end, much much thicker in the middle, and then thin again at the far end. That is my theory, it is mine, and it belongs to me, and I own it, and what it is, too.

Between my b'day and a trip to the used record/book store, I've got a lot of new tunes recently.

Last Night - Moby

I'm listening to it for the third time right now. Some great beats and guest vocalists. His tribute to the early '90s NYC club scene where he rose to prominence. The whole thing's got a nice groove to it.

Mudcrutch - Mudcrutch

Southern roots rock. Great Petty lyrics, as usual (My love is an ocean/You better not cross it). And it's nice that the other members are allowed to shine with their own turns at songwriting/lead vocals.

When the pawn... - Fiona Apple

This is the middle album that I've been missing for a few years. And it sounds just like that: a middle album. Effective but not overpowering Jon Brion orchestrations/production backing Fiona up. Not to sound too much like Patrick Bateman here, but it was with the next album (Extraordinary Machine) that she really came into her own.

Rockin' the Suburbs - Ben Folds

This is one of my new favorites. By the time I finally bought a real, tactile CD version, I'd listened to it a number of times on Last.fm and through iTunes. It's nice to listen to it in the car/on the stereo now, though. Lush, piano-driven pop tunes and quirky, affecting lyrics.
I heard a brief excerpt of the kiddyfied version of this title track from his Over the Hedge soundtrack. This is what happens when pop stars have kids. Case in point, the new Barenaked Ladies kids-track CD.

Others: Momofuku - Elvis Costello and the Imposters and Play: The B-Sides - Moby.

I recently got a copy of The Tiny Vipers - Empire Prism which is a creepy, minimal recording of a woman with a beautiful voice, an acoustic guitar, and an eerie set of effects peddles.
