Did you see the movie? What did you think about it? Did you enjoy the humor in the movie? What offended you about it? Some may feel that this would be better in the movie section. I think it is great post here because it deals with religion so much in the movie.

To quote another faux foreigner, Balki, "don't be ridiculous". Religion in Borat: anti-semitism is down to a silly cultural bias (coming from Cohen, a Jew, it's a personal thing), & the Pentecostal "salvation" thing, which was more of a plot device to help Borat at his lowest (accepting "Mr. Jesus", speaking in tongues). Going back to Kazakhstan a Christian, he obviously had changed very little. The offensive bits: the small-minded bigots spotlighted.

What's your take? I gave a serious answer to what I considered a silly question. Borat didn't offend, as I know that's what he's trying to do. Offensive: the rodeo guy wanting to lynch gays, the frat boys saying that minorities have all the power in the country, and the Pentecostals claiming that we are a "Christian country" (if any other group claimed that they "owned" the US, we'd never hear the end of it). We are a diverse country that promotes freedom of religion & many of it's citizens are Christian. Why isn't that enough? High five!!!

Sorry couldn't find a high five emoticon but here's a thumbs up
What is your interest in TP Kevin?
Beauty is momentary in the mind - The fitful tracing of a portal; But in the flesh it is immortal. The body dies; the body's beauty lives. So evenings die, in their green going, A wave, interminably flowing. So gardens die, their meek breath scenting the cowl of winter, done repenting. So maidens die, to the auroral Celebration of a maiden's choral. Susanna's music touched the bawdy strings Of those white elders; but, escaping, Left only Death's ironic scraping. Now in its immortality, it plays On the clear viol of her memory, And makes a constant sacrement of praise. ('Peter Quince at the Clavier' by Wallace Stevens)

First off I don't think it was a silly question at all. What is so silly asking if anything in Borat offended you when it seemed to offend a lot of people. It didn't me, because I saw the humor in it. And Ristretto, I am on here because I like the Twin Peaks Show. Why do you post in the religion section??? To prove that I am not allowed to have a view point in this country of freedom and freedom of speech, Oh yeah, that is a right Christians are not suppose to have freedom of speech. I'm sorry. I mean you are allowed to have freedom of speech about anything else. That is okay, but mention the bible or Jesus or anything and then that freedom of speech goes out the window. Anyway, I liked Borat. I was not sure what he was saying with the ending of the movie. To movie seemed to work more like a black comedy in the ending. I wasn't offended with the Jewish stuff at all, but I am not Jewish. I think he was trying to show how silly racism is with the money scenes.

What I objected to, SPECIFICALLY was their assertion that the U.S. is a Christian country, which is not a matter of opinion, but a patent untruth. Please read my whole statement.

As you say, freedom of speech is apparently why. But, to be honest, when I clicked on the tile "Borat" in the Active Topics section I didn't expect to find myself in the religion section.
