From Drudge:

REPORTS: Sen. Tim Johnson (D, SD) has suffered an 'apparent stroke'... NBC Affiliate WHDH in Boston: 'If he were to die or resign, he could potentially create a tie between Republicans and Democrats in the Senate. That is because South Dakota's governor would be able to appoint a replacement for Johnson and he is likely to be a fellow Republican.' Developing...

I smell conspiracy theories brewing somewhere in the distance!

According to Drudge, he is in critical condition. Drudge said it was because of "bleeding in teh brain." The Beltway must be abuzz right now. I have a feeling this is going to be messy and sad.

Being that he had emergency brain surgery last night, I can pretty much tell you that he will not be back for the January session unless he gets back on his feet quicker than anyone else.

I'm basing this on what we do at our hospital (obviously each hospital policy is different) but he'll probably be in ICU for 3-5 days. Once he's transferred to a very expensive, plush, PRIVATE room, he'll start the beginnings of his rehabilitation depending on how severe the bleed is (which if they did surgery, it had to be a relatively big one). It's the rehabilitation time that is really unknown and it will depend solely on him.

I predict a tie in the Senate.

Hope they check him for radiation - there's a bit of that going around...
