They're airing Mask , this night on a local net station here in Italy. Has any of you ever seen this?

It's dated 1985, directed by Pete Bogdanovich and starring Cher (who seems to have won the Palm d'or for this performance). The story is about a boy who suffers from a mortal deformity disease that causes his face to be be frigging scary and disgusting making it appear as he had a mask on. Cher plays the drug-addicted mother. The poor little guy dies only at 16. I read it's based on a true story. This movie picked my interest because also Laura Dern is in it and it reminded me a little of The Elephant Man.

My intuition tells me that it's worth giving it a watching try, don't you think? Plus, I usually like older films.

To who doesn't know, Bogdanovich is the man who directed The Last Picture Show, Paper Moon, Daisy Miller, At Long Last Love, Illegally Yours, Noises Off and the recent documentary Directed by.

as for paper moon, my fave! love the black & white film! father &daughter, ryan & tatum o'neal, the story film sets back in the 1920's,  1930's  don't wanna spoil it, but , ya gotta watch it, madeline kahn is in it! sweet trixie delight!  she's one of my fave actress & oh! I think it's one where randy quaid starts out to become a big star, he's better than his bro dennis, I.M.O.

will ryan & his daughter tatum, star in another film?

Okay, maybe I'm wrong because on IMDB they say he's still living but last year on our national (italian) newscast they gave shocking news about Ryan O' Neal's, best known as Kubrick's Redmond Barry Lindon, health.

If I remember correctly, they said he was diagnosed with a serious form of leukemia. So I guess he won't be acting anymore and eventually die in a few years.

Please let me know if it was a false information. That would be a terrible mistake made by the italian journalists.

Anyway, you didn't answer my question, is this movie worth watching?

The film was very very good.

It's a pity that I've never seen The Last Picture show. I should check this Bogdanovich out!

I've always loved the film Mask. To me it's worth a viewing just to see that Cher isn't a complete robot. Not to mention it's just a lovely, heartbreaking film. As a side note, there is a quick, funny reference to the film in an episode of "The Family Guy." Normally I don't care for the show (it's nothing but a string of pop culture references), but this particular bit was hysterical. :)

Anyway. I also highly recommend The Last Picture Show. Beautiful and depressing. Avoid the made-for-TV sequel filmed much later. It's pointless and dull.
