Nice guy, Gerald Ford. But I've already had it with the coverage. There is something very newsworthy going on between Somalia's Islamist militias and the Somalia shaky government along with the Ethiopians. On Christmas day, over 1000 were killed in the battle between these forces. (That's about 1/3 as many as 9/11, as the AP might frame the stats.) But on December 27, all the cable news shows see fit to reveal on the subject can be found on the running scroll at the bottom of the Gerald Ford Dead at 93 screen. Well, and there is that matter of nary a Western journalist willing to risk machetes and Kalishnokovs to cover any Somalia stories. Sigh. Gerald Ford was a nice man. A fellow-Michigander. I still have a W.I.N. button I got as a lark during his time in office. (Whip Infliation Now.) And he died at the same time as James Brown. Kinda like the death pairing of Princess Diana and Mother Teresa. So now in addition to the upcoming television news non-stop coverage of "2006:The Year in Review," we'll have a live Gerald Ford funeral. It's appropriate, I'm sure. But wouldn't it be nice if there were one news network devoted to...NEWS? CSPAN should get the full coverage of presidential funerals -- but not every single network. RIP, Gerald. You were almost right about that Warren Commission Report! Susan

Christmas Day we were watching a Best of SNL, which opened with Chevy Chase doing his patented Ford (falling over the tree). People couldn't remember which prez he was doing (I did), some of whom were old enough to recall. And then there's the Simpsons where Bush moves in across from Homer's family ( & shortly moves out). Replacement neighbor: good old Gerry Ford. Okay, now who'll be celeb corpse #3? An actor maybe? Stay tuned...
