1. the radiator lady's dance and worm-crushing, and - if this can be counted as the same scene even though something is in between - the 'In Heaven' song 2. chickens at Mary's parents: it's new! and moving under the fork! don't know why I like that scene so much, it's probably the sheer absurdity of it... it's definitely one of the clearest memories I have of the film 3. at the beginning, Henry's entering the 'hotel' - the pre- Black Lodge floor, the Jarmusch-like hall downstairs, the elevator and it's door, LOL! 4. the title scene: Henry's head off, baby's head in, the eraser workshop... 5. the exposition of Mary's family when Henry visits them: the horrible grandma (?), the dogs, the father with the most sick look on his face... OK, I give it about a week. It's new year time so perhaps a couple of days more, we'll see.

I don't know if anybody outside the UK has heard of Nigella Lawson, but I was rather shocked when I heard her referring to Eraserhead on her Christmas cookery special. She pulled a turkey out of a bucket of water and said 'ooh its like something out of Eraserhead!'
Any other UK folks see this show? Was quite funny to hear a mainstream media darling referencing Lynch's most obscure piece of cinema...

*Henry pulling umbilical cords out from under Mary in bed, and flinging them at the wall. *Henry and the Beautiful neighbor drowning in milk, wig floating on top. *Henry cuts open the baby, stabs it. *The bleeding cornish game hens, the smoking catatonic grandma that helps toss the salad. *Oh! And the dancing claymation worms in the chest.

Probably my favorite scene was when Henry opens the doors and sees the Beautiful Stranger with the deformed (?) man. That scene was scary and made a lot of sense to me... very powerful.
That god damn trailer's more popular than Uncle's Day in a whorehouse!

Yes.. very powerful... but if you care to make things work better in this thread, could you please try to think of five scenes and put them into a list? Unless, of course, it is the only scene you consider worthwhile in the film, in that case please accept my apologies... 12rainbow - should I count this in such order that the scene mentioned first is #1 and the one at the bottom #5? Smokey - same as above? My number one scene is your number one and the other 4 follow?

Hmmm. I didn't really think about it, but those were the order they came to mind, so that must count for something. But that whole meet the parents sequence, no matter what was your favorite aspect, was wonderful in it's entirety.

Thank you very much, 12rainbow and Smokey, but I'm afraid it didn't work out. You can't have a voting where three people vote cause there's nothing to count... I say it's a pity, though, I thought it could motivate someone (myself for certain) to look at some films from a new angle, perhaps even rewatch and to try and select which scenes are really striking. Or reveal surprises as to what people really like. And also, this was meant to go on for a couple of months, and thus keep things running on this board not only around Inland Empire, yet - by the time we would have gotten to Lynch's newest film, perhaps quite a few people would have watched it...

1. BOB1's #4: Henry's head off, baby's head in, the eraser workshop. 2. Mary leaving in the middle of the night: baby crying, Henry in bed, Mary trying to get suitcase... 3. "In Heaven" plus worm dance, BOB1's #1 4. The ending, it always reminds me to the one from FWWM. 5. Henry watching his neighbor and the baby laughing.

pooh... I was just about to give it all up and then some people come and ruin it :-))) well, I've looked through the scenes that have been voted for and I've got a few quesions: 12rainbow - what is "dancing claymation worms in the chest"... I'm afraid my English doesn't work well enough here... | QUOTE: *Henry pulling umbilical cords out from under Mary in bed, and flinging them at the wall. |
oh dear... I just realised I actually don't remember such a scene
When was it??? Gordon - what exactly do you mean by "final scene"? myself ;-) - since it looks like the whole dinner scene with parents is usually treated as one thing - and I split it in two - let me leave it at number two as it is really an icon I remember the best from Eraserhead.

Henry being embraced by the Lady in the Radiator, a white light, the music... It reminds me of Laura's bright and smiling face at the end of FWWM.

Thank you for another vote! :-) Rebel am I misunderstanding or are your choices rather new here? Had anyone before voted the scenes that you mentioned? And please, which one was the "Henry pulling umbilical cords out from under Mary in bed"scene??? I want to present the results tonight (but I need to know I understand your choices correctly ;-)) - and start a new thread!

yes, sorry for being late mentioning the scenes I've posted. just wanted to post a few that I liked :) as for henry pulling the umbilical cord, that's when he's in bed with mary & she's kicking around like a deer rubbing her eye and he's like hey! then he moves her over a bit, then feels somethin & starts pulling the umbilical cord.

Aren't they giant sperm cells? Not umbillical cords. That eye rubbing is uncomfortable.

It's easier to remember once everyone else posts their choices. 1. Rebel's #2 Mary X picture 2. GWPW's #1 Henry and Lady in the Radiator 3. Bob1's #4 Erasers 4. Bob1's #2 Chicken 5. Bob1's #5 Mary's family

.... yes, I wanted to but then my grandfather died... Well, anyway I will present the results now. In some cases I was not certain if I understood your choices correctly, so in case you noticed that I would mention two different scenes, which in fact are one and the same scene.... please tell me. (1st place was for 5 points nad 5th for one.) Most people voted for the dinner scene in some of its aspects. I found it didn't make sense splitting it and so... 1. The dinner scene - 16 pts. 2. The eraser-making scene - 13 pts. 3. The final scene - 11 pts. 4/5. Henry dancing with the Radiator Lady plus worms as well as Henry pulling the umbilical cords - both 10 pts. 6. Henry looking at Mary's picture - 9 pts. 7/8. Henry & Neighbour having sex as well as Henry sees the stranger with another man - both 8 pts. 9. Killing of the baby - 6 pts. 10. Man in another place and the lever - 5 pts. Other scenes got less than 5. Thank you very much for taking part!
