for all you Metallica fans out there, they will have a new album out next year. Lars says it will sound like from their album "master of puppets" :)

Fantastic! I love Metallica. I even loved the St.Anger album. Where did you read that Reb?

Yes, Thats why the new CD debuted at Number 1 and sold 500,000 copies the first week alone and by the way the tour is nearly sold out as well. Yes, you're up on current events. Past It??????

It's interesting how the attitude about popularity being the same as quality changes when dealing with something you like instead of what the "braindead masses" like.

I'm talking generic you here, not making a personal attack.

Likely just being a smartass, sans the smart part.  All the reviews indicate a return to form (no doubt aided by Rick Rubin), but I refuse to comment, as I haven't heard the thing. Not a metal fan, in general, or a Metallica lover, in specific (though being a big This is Spinal Tap fan I did see Some Kind of Monster).  "They're past it", just seems a rote dismissal from someone who wants to dis the vets.  I've read similar comments(on this board) about my fave band, the Rolling Freaking Stones & how they're coasting on the legend, etc.  I mention the superb Scorsese doc Shine A Light & get the internet version of a dog looking at a card trick...

They are touring "in the round" so all tickets are awesome. Can't wait for 1 Dec. The last time I saw them live was 98. I missed the entire ST. Anger tour because I was in Iraq so its time to make up for the loss.

They are past it in my opinion. It is my belief that they peaked around 1995.

It's just my opinion, music-wise.

I couldn't care less how many copies a band sell, as that doesn't really reflect the quality.

And no, one suave folk, I was not being a 'smartass'. That has never been my style.

We listened to the new CD at least 6 times over the week that we were on vacation--good driving tunes for sure!  My fave songs are The Day That Never Comes, All Nightmare Long, and the Unforgiven III.  The whole CD is great, but those are my faves.  Eric bought the CD for The Day That Never Comes alone. :)

Sorry, just found this thread.

I for one, am extremely pleased with Death Magnetic.   Sure, it's no Master of Puppets or Ride the Lightning, but it's easily their best since ..And Justice For All.  My favorite tracks are: That Was Just Your Life, All Nightmare Long, Cyanide, and My Apocalypse.

Ben:  "We've laid in a gala reception for your fair-haired boys tonight.  All of Twin Peaks' best and brightest."

Jerry: "We're holding it in a phone booth?"
