Beck plays like a gazillion instruments so it just might be him.

After seeing Queens of the Stone Age twice last year, I like Joey Castillo more and more.

Charlie Watts is still my favorite skinman. The "whew" he gives after the full throttle version of All Down The Line & the "Hello" he utters after Mick introduces him in Shine A Light (go see it NOW) is worth the admission alone. Not to mention his 11 minute drum solo!!!!!!!!!!! (Just kidding)

Bev Bevan

Was listening to ELO's Face The Music on the way home from work, and Bev Bevan's drumming is amazing.  On Fire on High, he drums faster than I would think is humanly possible.  Nice licks throughout.

Bill Kreutzman and Mickey Hart

I heard Kreutzman say drumming was like dancing, and being a dancer, I loved that.  He does dance on those drums.  And he and Mickey together, well, you know, nothing like the Dead.

Pick Withers

Drummer on the first 4 Dire Straits albums.  Lots of finesse.

I'm surprised that no one has even mentioned perhaps the greatest of all time...

that being....Hal Blaine of the 'wrecking crew'.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hal_Blaine

I do have a soft spot for Dave Lombardo too...of Slayer fame.

Myself, of course. The greatest Dixieland drummer who ever raped his daughter for the first time when she was only four years old this side of the Atlantic! My name is De Jong and my daughter was Annie. Now she is dead. Sad. ;-(
