Order of the Phoenix is an incredible film (in terms of the HP film series). I liked it a lot better than Goblet of Fire simply because I think there was a better job done at selecting which bits were more important to keep in the film and which ones could be shaved. I thought I would bawl my ass off when a certain character died, but the way they did it was so slick (didn't even halt the action!) that I didn't have time to get too choked up before the film kept going. Thank god. I saw the film with a group of guys. I would have been teased mercilessly. LOL But anyway, I really dug the vibe of the film...I like that the filmmakers, like Rowling herself, haven't been afraid to keep darkening the tone of the series. I worried that they'd try to make the books turn out lighter on film so as not to lose the precious child market, but it seems that they don't care about that so much, and apparently neither do parents, as there were about a dozen six-year-olds in the showing I was at...

Anyway! The book! I am a consummate peeker. Without fail. I peeked at the last book as well. And instantly felt bad because it make me tear up immediately and my friend who isn't a peeker knew from my reaction which character ate it. She was really bummed about having the ending spoiled, moreso than she was about the ending itself. LOL Oh well.

Now that some time has passed...

Let me get this straight:  Malfoy was the Elder wand's rightful owner because he was supposed to kill Dumbledore (?) and Dumbledore had the wand because he disarmed Grindelwald.  Harry disarmed Malfoy so he became the rightful owner of both Malfoy's wand and the Hallow wand and that's why Voldemort couldn't use it on Harry?

I think I need to read 1/2 blood prince again...did Malfoy disarm Dubledore?

Yes, Draco was the one who disarmed Dumbledore (even though he couldn't go through with killing Dumbledore...had he not disarmed Dumbledore, Snape would have won the Elder Wand when he struck Dumbledore down), so the "ownership" of the Elder Wand passed to him. The Elder Wand didn't work proper for Voldemort because he did not "win" it from its rightful owner. And in some weird twist, when Harry disarmed Draco, he took ownership of Draco's wand AND the Elder Wand...even though really that sounds silly to me. Rowling didn't make it that clear (one of my many complaints about this book...don't get me started) if that's what really happened and how that could actually happen...   Because according to the conversation Harry has with Ollivander, you take ownership of your opponent's wand by defeating them, but it was never spelled out whether they had to be using that wand when defeated. But then again, when does anyone ever have more than one wand? So I guess it wasn't something that was truly addressed. Dunno. Muddy.

I am glad we are on the same page here because the whole last chapter I was sitting there going, wtf!  She pulled all of this garbage out of absolutely nowhere!

So technically Snape can own Lockhart's wand because way back in book 2 they were teaching the kids to duel and he knocked him down, remember?

I mean if it was really like that wouldn't 10 year old brothers and sisters everywhere be disarming each other so they couldn't have their wand?

From http://the-leaky-cauldron.org/:

Tonight, the one thousand grand prize winners of the Scholastic's Open Book Tour Sweepstakes along with a companion got the chance to see Harry Potter author J. K. Rowling read from "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," answer questions and sign books at New York City's Carnegie Hall. We have exclusive information this evening on the myriad of "Deathly Hallows" questions she answered as well as in-depth details on a number of subjects she spoke about.
...

Q: Did Dumbledore, who believed in the prevailing power of love, ever fall in love himself?

A: My truthful answer to you... I always thought of Dumbledore as gay. [ovation.] ... Dumbledore fell in love with Grindelwald, and that that added to his horror when Grindelwald showed himself to be what he was. To an extent, do we say it excused Dumbledore a little more because falling in love can blind us to an extend, but he met someone as brilliant as he was, and rather like Bellatrix he was very drawn to this brilliant person, and horribly, terribly let down by him. Yeah, that's how i always saw Dumbledore. In fact, recently I was in a script read through for the sixth film, and they had Dumbledore saying a line to Harry early in the script saying I knew a girl once, whose hair... [laughter]. I had to write a little note in the margin and slide it along to the scriptwriter, "Dumbledore's gay!" [laughter] If I'd known it would make you so happy, I would have announced it years ago!

My friend has been telling people this since the book came out, to much skepticism. You can bet she feels vindicated today.

I read about this today.  To be honest, it wasn't ever something that occurred to me.  But then I suppose why would I be looking for something like that in what is primarily a children's book, I guess...

What I'd love Michael Gambon to do now is on his next take whilst filming is camp it up something rotten.  Just for the giggle.  And then they could put it on the DVD extras and traumatise some kids.  It's a win/win situation!

My theory by A. Elk, brackets, Miss, brackets. This theory goes as follows and begins now. All brontosauruses are thin at one end, much much thicker in the middle, and then thin again at the far end. That is my theory, it is mine, and it belongs to me, and I own it, and what it is, too.
