Looks like a tough one but I hope it will be a challenge!

I for myself am planning to rewatch Dune, especially because I got the DVD for Christmas and this will provide a perfect opportunity to switch it on.

Let's go!

1. The Gom Jabbar scene has always been my favorite. Box of pain, poisoned needle, etc.

2. Big Ed, Coop and Co. riding worms.

3. Alia vs. The Baron ("Wait for my brother")

4. The ending.

5. That short scene with Brad Dourif where he says "It is by will alone I set my mind in motion".

Ah, tough one... But I really like the first one I mentioned...

3. when the space folder comes in the giant tank to see jose ferrer and the rest of the clan use the microphone to translate

4. when duncan uses the forcefield but gets the screw in the head

5. father/son talk just before the family leaves and goes to arakkis(dune)

Bleep you, & bleep the establishment, and bleep all of you who are trying to make me part of the unestablished establishment.

1.  Any scene with the Baron in it (particularly when he's having his boils treated at the doctors.)

2.  Paul addressing the entire nation of Fremen as Mu'adib and then attacking the emperor.

3.  Paul facing the Reverend Mother with the Pain Box and quoting "Fear is the mind killer..."

4.  Jessica going through the torture of drinking the water of life to become a Reverend Mother.

5.  Paul fighting Feyd-Rautha (Sting) and winning--actually all the scenes with Paul; I just love Paul!

I really dig that Skeet Surfin' musical number. Wait, that's Top Secret. Oh, when that sassy talkin' dune buggy-- no, that's Speed Buggy.  Okay, when Frankie & Annette defeat that mischievous Eric Von Zipper and his... that's Beach Blanket Bingo.   What the hell is Dune?! You mean Lorna Doone? THAT'S A COOKIE!! Mmmm, cookie...

1. The ending - final showdown between Paul and Feud/rain

2. Riding the sandworms

3.  Jessica and Paul escape on Dune

4. The climatic battle in the film

5. The betrayal of the Duke

(Sorry, I haven't seen the film enough times to remember any more key scenes.)

1) Caladan scenes, especially on the battlements with Leto and Paul - nice contrast to bright and dry scenes later on

2) When Nefud is spinning the Baron around

3) When Piter de Vries tells Nefud to take away Paul and his mother, using those absurd/camp hand gestures.

4) Alia with the dagger in slo-mo

5) DL covered with dust radioing for help - that whole escape sequence where the worms are first seen

BTW, are anyone's favourite scenes from the TV version and not in the cinema edit?

QUOTE: I for myself am planning to rewatch Dune

.. finally happened two days ago - and it was for the first time I watched it all without falling asleep! ;-)

1. opening, Virginia Madsen talking like Galadriel about very important things ;-)

2. pain box

3. Alia facing the Rev.Mother and others (a moment later the Baron, too)

4. Duke Leto and Paul inspecting the works on the planet with Max von Sydow, sandworm appears, all panic etc.... I like this duke!

5. attempt on Paul's life which concludes in his saving the life of Linda Hunt

Top five Dune scenes according to this topic:

1. The pain box scene ................. 12 pts.          (good choice!)

2. Alia as the messenger ............ 11 pts.          (another good choice!)

3. The baron introduction scene ... 10 pts.

4.  Kyle vs. Sting fight ................. 9,5 pts

5. Worm riding ........................... 7 pts.

Just behind the top five was the ending scene (rain), with 6,5 pts.

The halves of points happened because ghostwoodpineweasel voted as no.1 for both the fight and the ending. However, I find them to be two quite separate scenes, so they have been counted as ex aequo and got 4,5 pts. each.

I havent seen this film in ages, but if I remember correctly there was a talking vagina monster or something in it.

So my top 5 is like this.

1-5: Talking vagina monster.

"Wake up and find out what the hell yesterday was about. I'm not too keen on tommorow, and today's slipping by."

oh c'mon.. it's not a vagina monster, it's some evil E.T. mutation!

And it's my main candidate for the WORST scene of the film, too!

I understand why this film is not ranked or in the bottom 10 of all Lynch films.  Classic sci-fi novel would have worked better as a season long HBO mini-series instead of a 2 hour movie.  Glad Lynch got away from big budget films.

1.  The Baron's intro, pulling the heartplug, oil bath, Raban eating "stuff"

2.  Leto, Paul scene on balcony overlooking ocean

3.  Bowflex Sting emerging from smoke to be checked out by the Baron

4.  A very young and not nearly as confident DL working out in the desert

5.  Paul's sleeping and waking dream sequences which contained early Lynchian themes seen in later works.

"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it, don't wait for it, just let it happen. Could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot, black coffee. Like this."  -Dale Cooper
