We are under a winter chill tonight through Monday evening. It's 19 degrees here, finally some real winter weather. I just hope that Wednesday the weather stays calm because I am FINALLY driving up to see my family.

here's some pics that my parents took in Beaumont when they had their four inches. and here's the pictures of our first snow in November. Didn't take any of the most recent storm last week in which we got 2-3 inches.

And it went on like that.
My bus karma has been just great. With all of the shnitow that's been going on in the last week the longest I've had to wait has been about 20 minutes last night. In that time I probably picked up about a quarter inch of snow on the brim of my hat. Got to the hood fine, got to the store, which had not been cleaned out, fine, got home fine, watched it snow. I'm aware that I may have just jinxed myself but as I have four days off after today I'm not that worried about the idea of walking home.
We picked up about 5 inches according to the PI and that seems right to me. It is snowing now but warmer. The NWS is saying 1-2 more inches possible today, 1-3 tonight. More possible next week but rain for Christmas!

There has been this bad wind that has been making my awing chreech in a way I have never heard. It's 5 degrees right now and I dont' remember the last time I have witnessed this in Central Ohio. Kinda feel like I am back in Minneapolis minus the proper street care by the city/state. I don't think there will be snow for Christmas, but I will be in Toledo so there is a possibility that we will have it up there. I will just be happy to make the drive in one piece on Wednesday and to have 4 days off in a row.

High expected today of 52, then tonight 29 with a frost warning. Time to haul out the plant covers. But tomorrow we return to high in 70's and low in 50's. Winter in north central Florida. I spent my first thirty years in the northeast, and I admit I miss the snow, cross-country skiing, waking up with snow-covered pines and deer standing alert in the quiet stillness. But I DO NOT miss scraping windshields and shoveling for hours to dig the car out to drive on precarious roads to work. Blecchh.

It's raining in Los Angeles today which is nice even if it's not snow. My mother is spending her first winter without snow so her neighbors were kind enough to send along some photos for her to see what she's missing. She did sigh a little when I showed her the pictures but I don't think it was a sigh of relief. How soon you forget the inconveniences of snow when looking a photos. Pretty, pretty, isn't it? Susan

On the news this morning it said that for the month of December, in our area, we've already received just over 25 inches of snow--some places a little further from here have more of course on the ground--we've got about 15 inches or so here. It's -1 right now with a -11 wind chill. 1-2 inches of new snow expected tonight, and 2-4 expected tomorrow. I think there's snow in significant amount expected Wednesday as well, when we are supposed to be driving up North. Eric's mom said there is winter storm talk for Saturday... Eventually, I will go and take pictures. Will wait to see what the next few days bring first. The mound of snow outside from the plowing of our parking lot is already a sight to bewilder the mind.

Crazy! Another two and a half inches of snow on Sunday which, as is typical around here, was all but gone 24 hours later. It was in the mid 50's yesterday and then rained like a bible story last night causing flooding which has closed I5. Top that off with all Cascade passes being closed and WE"RE CUT OFF! We've been isolated from the rest of the country. Oh, well, can always flee to Canada.

70-75 degrees today. Sunny. Very windy. The power went out for about 10 minutes only making certain that every clock had to be reset throughout the house. My brother flew in from Wisconsin yesterday. Here's how his driveway and street look... Susan

Your weather sounds like ours, Susan. It's gorgeous here today, except for the damned wind. Which isn't so bad unless you're trying to keep your hair from going wild. Thankfully I've been wearing a scarf as a headband all day, so I'm good. :D Definitely waiting for a power outage though. It just feels like it's that kind of day. redbear, your weather is damn brutal right now. I have so many friends who live all over Washington and they're all (if they can) reporting some of the most intense weather-related issues I've heard in a long time. Here's a great website that I keep following for updates on all the closures, openings, floods, etc in Washington...

Cool and gray at the moment, good chance of rain this afternoon and evening but it looks to be a more typical light rain rather than the dump we got earlier this week.
Yeah it's been wacked as the kids say. Seattle proper missed our main issue with crazy big rains, landslides. It is always slightly amusing to me when this happens as the owners start wailing for the city to save them or complaining that no one warned them that their house might fall tumble into the sound. Well, dumb ass, we thought you might be able to figure out that that was one of the prices you pay for your great view and weren't you complaining that you wanted the government 'off your back' just last week? I guess that is human nature, at least as currently expressed. As is it's mainly the 'poor' people (as poor as one can be and still own property in the Puget Sound region) who live in the low lands who have been screwed and even in that case it's not like they should be surprised. Live next to a river? You will get flooded eventually. Hope the sun shines in your back yard today. P.S. Just had the thought again; how cool would it have been to see the Snoqualamie fall running at full spate? (and how amazing is it that I got the spelling of 'Snoqualamie' right the first time?)

We are under another winter weather watch. Freezing rain, wind, and snow this time. I need to go to the store but don't think I will make the trek out. I guess just north of here they got 10 inches of snow last night. It would be nice to see some snow because it makes the ugly baldness look pretty...

Triumph fail. It's spelled "Snoqualmie". :) I've seen the falls in the late winter after many heavy rains. It's gorgeous and LOUD. :) Highly recommend a visit if you can swing it safely after the storms have all subsided.

HA! Well that's what I get for getting cocky. I could use the excuse that google knew what I was talking about but neglected to tell me that I didn't but I think I'll just fall back on my universal, the liberal early 70's education system. They didn't beat me enough. But that's why the tao made editors, and it made me so that the editors wouldn't hurt for work. So thanks ed. (If your an editor and and administrator does that make you and ed ad?) Raining here, much gloom with us about to lose our 2nd paper (the PI) along with all the rest.
Much love and warm happy hugs, redbear (I give good hug)

Tonight it's slightly cloudy, 50 degrees, with an incredible full moon illuminating the night. We're headed for 27 degrees later in the week, after some rain.

After two spring-like days, we got dumped on 4" this a.m. I turned around and went home when I heard there were 5 accidents, the highways were parking lots, and the plows were getting nothing done.

Blizzard like conditions in Iowa but that is nothing new. It snows or ices at least twice a week this winter. When I graduate, I'm moving somewhere warm. Maybe the desert.

In the middle of a winter weather advisory/winter storm warning/wind chill advisory. Right now it's snowing--that powder-fine snow. Supposed to get possibly 6 inches or more of it--topped with 30 mph winds. Then it is going to get cold. Really cold. Wind chills in the negative 20's to possible 30's. Do not want.

Cool (33f, which I refuse to call cold), dry, sunny and stagnate. Yuck.

Wow...it's 22 degrees out now. I have been out all day and it actually has felt a bit warm. It's been below zero the whole week so this was a nice change. I felt like it was summer! :)

Cold really is, in my opinion, an inherently subjective concept. This can be illustrated by two questions; Which is colder, a 60f day in August or a 60f day in January? and Which is colder, a 60f day in Fairbanks or a 60f day in Honolulu?

We got to 25 ABOVE today! Was extremely nice not to have to run outside to do anything and literally turn back around to get back into the house before your netherbits froze off.
