I know many of you are not fans of Gilmore Girls , but you probably know that two days ago the last episode was aired leaving a lot of people shocked because of the finale. The series ends in a way different "parties" of the audience didn't want it to end, but I don't give a damn because I think I got the whole spirit of the series since the very first beginning and I felt that the ultimate episode was absolutely great because of the great mood, the subtle innuendos, the acting and the circularity of the whole thing. The greatest thing is that they shoot those last episodes *not knowing or thinking* it was the actual end of the series. They were quite sure it would continue for another dozen 'following-up' episodes next season, but this is now impossible to make happen because the studios and channel have withdrawn their deals with the two lead actresses and shut the series down. Actually they are now destroying the set in Burbank... Well, to be concise, it's all over. I know a lot of people wants series to go on, like, forever. Well, I think they are stupid. Maybe some kinds of series are able to do such a thing (i.e. The Simpsons or maybe E.R.), but not things like GG or even our beloved Twin Peaks. I mean, Lynch did that great thing with the last episode and he tied things up in a particular way, but it inevitably left the major audience begging for more and 'more' obviously was not offered. I think a myriad of people have been arguing about this issue since that moment and probably this is what is starting to happen for the fans of Gilmore Girls. The crazy thing about series ending unexpectedly but not in a lame way, I mean, with a dignified and standing out finale is the result external to the show itself. I mean, people start arguing and basically they will never reach a point where they try to understand each other or make amends.... and the whole spirit of the series, all the goodness that was in it... it simply dispels. I think that's the really sad thing, not the shows ending. People don't get the subliminal things that can be seen and read in a final episode and end up saying 'it's too cryprtic, it's too rushed, it leaves you unsatisfied'. Well, they're all wrong attitudes in my opinion. Okay, I don't expect people to post replies to this, but it was a thought I was willing to share with all of you. And, for the record and those who are interested, I liked the finale very much (especially the last part) and I think it's quite obvious L. and L. got back together. There's nothing else to say for me. No conventional slush, no honey-sweet reconciling kisses with romantic music in the backrgound, no weddings at all, no tragic deaths. Which other series have we seen ending like that? Thank God Gilmore Girls didn't end that way, it would have been extremely lame.

Uhm... I think I need a little bit more input here, 'cause I've never followed the Sopranos series. Anyway, maybe it's not a coincidence then, that this show you're mentioning was quoted a few times on some Gilmore episodes.

Anyway, did I ever tell you that I just love your quote from Deconstructing Harry?

Interestingly, we started watching the 1st season of GG at home about 2 or 3 months ago... Loving it so far (though not without finding some flaws), we have 7 seasons ahead....so I'm not too worried right now about the finale. Maybe I get tired during season 3, maybe I wish for 30 or 40 seasons more, I don't know, right now I can't tell. The same thing happened to me with ALIAS. I started watching it at the same time it finished...

Thanks. That was a good one! But I actually had no idea that The Sopranos was quoted on The Gilmore Girls. Good for them! I only mentioned The Sopranos out of love and the coincidence of a series coming to an end. It is a difficult thing -- ending a series -- because the writers never know when writing the pilot WHEN the saga will end. Bravo to the show that does it well given the constrictions. Susan

Gordon, if you're watching GG on dvds you chose the perfect way. Watching it with adverisements is a real pain!

What about the aspect ratio? Those screenshots look like 1:85:1, but the DVDs are full framed, 1:33:1, which one is correct? Or does the aspect ratio change in a later season?

Well, I own every published dvd of Gilmore Girls until season 6 by now and the aspect ratio on each is of 1: 33. I don't know why it is 1:85 when aired on TV. Anyway, I don't like it. The dvds full screen versions are way better.

Hey, I don't wanna force this, but I have always seen some very subtle connections between GG and Twin Peaks. First of all, Lesli Linka Glatter directed a bunch of episodes during the first season including the pilot. Secondly, the small-town America setting is pretty much similar and revolves around a great variety of characters that all know each other. Plus, there is this episode at the beginning of Season 2 where there is a total tribute to Twin Peaks and David Lynch: Lorelai and Rory go for an eloping trip and before heading for Harvard they stop by in a hallucinating B&B crowded with incredible people. There is this scene where Lorelai and Rory fight over wedding issues and at the same time people downstairs are singing crappy songs in the middle of the night: LORELAI: Rory, I don't want to talk about this. I thought that by saying 'enough' and turning off the light, you would get the message. Apparently not. The skywriter will be here in a minute.
RORY: I'm asking you a question.
LORELAI: I am a grown woman.
RORY: Says the woman with the "Hello, Kitty" waffle iron.
LORELAI: I have earned the right not to be quizzed about my social life by my sixteen-year-old daughter.
RORY: I thought I was your best friend!
LORELAI: When we're at a U2 concert, you are my best friend. But right now you are my sixteen-year-old daughter and I am telling you I do not want to have this conversation.
RORY: Well I do.
LORELAI: Well tough.
RORY: Everything was planned! Everyone was excited, including you, and then all of a sudden, you're out!
LORELAI: Well, I changed my mind.
RORY: This is our life that you just tossed off!
LORELAI: Hey, I didn't just toss off anything!
RORY: We had plans! We made space in the closet!
LORELAI: Oh Rory, just because we moved a couple of boxes is not reason enough for me to get married!
RORY: Max was counting on this! I was counting on this!
LORELAI: Rory, stop it! We are not gonna have this fight in a flowery bedroom with dentists singing "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves" in the background. It's too David Lynch!
RORY: I think you love him!
LORELAI: Rory, go to sleep!
