Ok, so this is a TP forum, and this genre might be slightly out of place and undervalued here, but this flick deserves a mention.

It was released in OZ a week or so before the US, so been out for a while now.  The movie offers brilliant - seemingly flawless - CGI.  In Star Wars I groan when I can see the obvious flaws that could almost ruin these movies...not so in Transformers.

This movie does the original series justice - it's not too kiddish, not too adult - just a comfortable medium.  I took my 6 and 8 year olds to see it and they loved it.  My son's name is Jazz - like one of the key Autobot characters which is something he was really chuffed about.

I even dragged my wife along...she finally relented saying it'd be a good chance to get a long nap.  In the end, even she loved it - from start to finish.  That said, it really is more of a guys flick overall - one to see with your mates.

So overall a great effort.  There have been some gripes about the marketing deal done with Chevy such that many characters didn't transform into their original vehicles, but into different flavours of Chevy...but to me this was a minor point.  The visual and sound effects were magnificent, there was enough plot to keep it ticking, and the action was paced nicely to maintain interest from start to finish.

It gets a solid 8/10.

Aw, I watched the movie last night and damn, what a great movie! Like it was almost as good as Terminator 2 I think. Really cool. I didn't expect that at all. I thought it would be lame, because these kind of movies usually are. Like movies based on toys that I used to play with and adore when I was a kid never really lives up to my expectations, but this one really did... I just hope they aren't going to make a sequel, because this one was just perfect...

Heh, well... yeah, it's probably a guy movie, but I'm a girl and I loved it... but I don't know... I thought it was excellent!

One thing I will not deny, the CGI stuff in Transformers is amazing. The way the effects blend with real footage is mind-boggling. I think the narrative could be more compact, some of the threads seem to exist only to justify more missions in the accompanying video game. Funny to mention Terminator 2, it was the pinaacle of SFX at its time, besides the T1000, the first film with digital wire removal, I believe. The actions scenes in T2 were better, IMHO.

But I give Transformers 8/10 (it would probably be 10/10 if I was the same age when I saw T2)
