RIP Bergman

I know there a lot of Swedes on this board, this is horribe news for all of us, but particularly for you guys - he was a Master.

89 isn't bad though - he had a good run. I guess he finally lost that chess game!

Has he taken his eyes off it yet?

I'm from Sweden, and it came sort of like a chock to me when I heard the news. He was no doubt the best filmmaker from our country, and if you ask me he belongs on the top-ten list of best directors all time worldwide. Sadly thou, the majority of my friends haven't seen a single movie made by Bergman, but our TV-stations changed their schedule beacause of his deadth, and showed a documentary from 2004 this evening, followed by one of his films, and they will show one Bergman-film every single day this week in his memory, so hopefully more people will see some of his work.

Rest In Peace Ingmar, or Vila I Frid as we say here in Sweden.

This is most sad news - Bergman and Antonioni dying on the same day!

Two legends of cinemas, both having created many masterpieces of film. R.I.P

I have never watched a Bergman film. Where do I start?

I second this.

Fanny & Alexander is also pretty stellar. It;s long though, which might not make it the best starting point.
Though there is a certain bent appeal in starting with his last (theatrical) film

there are many good ones though. I say start seeking

Ditte: well, I'm in love with a board member
