Oh that old chestnut. It seems to me the Brits are not out, it is only the army being downsized to a 5000 garrison as it is in most other parts of the UK where troops are staioned. The last I looked Ulster is still part of the UK.

No Ulster comprises Nine Counties, of them nine counties only six are under British jurisdiction. For now.

Point taken about the number of counties, but to say "for now" makes me think you may be in dream land. There is no way there will be a united Ireland. Do you seriously believe that if a vote was put to the people that it would happen? Are you not content with having an Irish Assembly? I guess you won't be given who is the leader at Stormont.

There will be a united Ireland, probably in my life time. If the vote was put to the people in a few years it is constitutionally feasible. The ratio of catholic to protestant is nearing 50:50 and with the catholic church still doggedly anti-contraception, the numbers on the catholic side will not slow down anytime soon.

Face it, Britain doesn't want us, its far too expensive to run this place. Did you know that 60% of the economy here is dependant on the public sector? Its a joke. The sooner we join the republic and cath up with them the better. We need to reduce tax to the level of the booming economy south of the border, reduce the public sector, and become self-sufficient.

As for stormont, I couldn't really care who is leader as long as they do their Job. So far imo, Mr Paisley has been doing a good job and surprisingly working very well in joint office with Martin McGuiness.

ABOD mate,

When are you going to face up to the fact that nobody on this side of the sea is interested in keeping you part of the UK?  If N.I. were to vote in a referendum to rejoin the south, I reckon only about 5% of people here would even be remotely bothered.  Don't know how you can be 'loyal' to a Union that isn't remotely arsed about you.

N.I becoming part of the ROI is a nailed-on certainty in our liftetimes.  Start coming to grips with it as soon as you can.

Herofix,

what side of the sea are you talking about? I assume you are on the mainland? I take it you don't care either then?

Rock, paper, scissors may have been the best way to have sort it all out. There was certainly a few rocks used.

As for flags shoved in faces, I do hope you are not offended by my avatar as I assume that is what you are getting at??

Personally I think its a bit crass imo. I'd think the same if it was an Irish tricolour or a Stars & Stripes for that matter. No harm in being proud of your national identity but surely there must be deeper and more individual facets to your personality than your nationality?

Cybacat... Are you sure Aussie's can be trusted to choose their own head of state? How about Rolf Harris or that Bush Tucker guy?

I think most people in Britain just want the Irish to get along. We're probably as pleased as you are the British soldiers are leaving, Lets Roque.

Joining an Irish republic would be the best thing that ever happened to Northern Ireland, IMHO.. and as Andrew says, it will happen, just a question of when and how.

Good to see Photoshop being put to good use...

x-ray - I agree, most people just want the Irish to get along and stop killing each other.  I expect that'll be easier with the perceived "foreign occupation" now ceasing.  Equally we bear no malice towards Britons, the Commonwealth or even the Royal family (ok, maybe a bit for the Royals) - we just want independence Down Under.  Real independence - which means 100%, not the 98% we have now.  I know it will happen in my lifetime, with the days of the monarchists in Australia dying out, and the new breed of pollies from both sides of politics wanting Australia to become a Republic with an Aussie head of state.  Sir Les Patterson would be an excellent choice, not too far removed from the current Royals imho...

Really?  I heard it was - well that's how the morning program I watch presented it...

If it's real, what's the story behind it?
