Now this is surprising.  I've always liked Owen Wilson and would not have figured him to be depressed or suicidal.  Who knows?  Maybe he is a US doctor.

WORLD EXCLUSIVE: OWEN WILSON ATTEMPTED SUICIDE!

Actor Owen Wilson was hospitalized after attempting suicide, sources tell the NATIONAL ENQUIRER and Star magazine exclusively.

Wilson was transported to St. John’s hospital in Santa Monica , Calif. on Sunday, August 26, by ambulance. Sources tell the ENQUIRER and Star that he sliced his left wrists and took an indeterminate amount of pills.

He was discovered by a family member who summoned help.

Police and an ambulance responded to a 911 call from Owen’s house around noon on Sunday.

His wrist was sutured and bandaged at the hospital.

The ENQUIRER and Star broke the story of Owen’s hospitalization earlier Sunday and revealed that he was being transferred from St. John’s after being stabilized. The publications learned that he was going to be detoxed.

Owen was brought in to St. John’s in very serious condition. Police were on the scene immediately as was a criminal defense attorney, believed to be working for Wilson. Some of Owen’s family was with him.

Wilson was stabilized at St. John’s.

I had a flashback to that scene from The Royal Tenenbaums when I read this, until I realized that was Luke and not Owen in that role. Poor guy, I hope he gets help.

Did he slice his wrist in the cry for help way, or the other way? That's important to know.
Though he did take a large amount of pills, so he was probably serious.

And was it one wrist or both?  Conflicting reports.

This just in -- Owen Wilson requests:

"I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time."

Yep, that's gonna happen.

This can't be about Kate Hudson breaking up with him, can it?  I mean a man doesn't break that easily, does he? They were together for about a a month or two, right?

Fragility, thy profession is actor.

I'm into this tabloid story because I LIKE Owen Wilson.  And because of the Least Likely to Slit His Wrist/Wrists status.  Here's an article that may shed some light.  Well, if not light, maybe shed some gossip.  Let's see if it is the case later.  Pssst.  Heroin?!

suicidal pretendencies

Did 'Elle' Curse Drive Owen Wilson To Suicide? Or Was It Heroin?

owenwilson2082707.jpgThis month's Elle cover story, you may recall, is a profile of Lindsay Lohan written on the basis of an interview that ended the day before she was busted drunkenly crashing her coke-stocked car in a series of events that precipitated entry to rehab. Well, guess what celebrity Elle just interviewed last Thursday? That's right -- EMO-WEN WILSON! -- he of the wrist slashing and hospitalizations, and the needing privacy during this difficult time blah blah. And according to sources affiliated with the celebrity-sartorial complex, Elle is starting to worry that the professional celeb fellater types who set these things up are going to think the magazine is "cursed." Even more interestingly, the same sources say the "suicide" thing is actually just a meme put out to distract from the darker "heroin" thing that Owen has been rumored to have been consuming a little more than socially lately.

So wait, Nicole Richie was not America's gateway heroin addict celebrity? Also, is Owen Wilson the universe's most unlikely despondent suicide attempter? Or the world's most unlikely junkie? Whatever the case, he is at the very least consistent in his desire for privacy: reportedly the interview -- of which poor, beaten-down human condition-plagued Owen could only endure half the appointed ninety minutes -- steered clear of all topics Goldie-spawned. And when it briefly ventured into the realm of hypothetical maybe future pairings with highly stable other famous people (he's promoting a movie with Jennifer Aniston) he complained to his publicist that the question was "tabloid-y." Famous attempted last words!

Now Courtney Love weighs in.  Anyone know this Steve Coogan character?

from the Defamer...

Steve Coogan Finally Gets His Breakthrough Moment As Owen Wilson's Enabler

coogan.jpgAt the height of Owen Wilson's very public personal crisis, Courtney Love uncharacteristically offered up her own, highly opinionated views on the topic--suicide and hard drugs being two subjects that run, pun only partially intended, deeply in her veins. Suspecting she knew exactly who and what led Wilson to his act of desperation, the singer told Us magazine that the culprit was Steve Coogan: A far bigger star in the U.K. than in the U.S., Coogan gained fame overseas for his TV portrayal of dim-bulbed newsman Alan Partridge. (In this clip, he fittingly admits he has no idea who Kurt Cobain is, and is baffled over why he might have taken his own life.) Coogan and Love had a brief affair, which was rumored to have caused a pregnancy, but that thankfully produced no illegitimate children--between Love's body dysmorphia and Coogan's English dental genes, the kid never stood a chance.

Once the actor befriended Wilson on the set of A Night of the Museum--the two men played warring diorama figurines--it was only a matter of time, Love suspected, before they mounted their miniature horses and galloped off into the dark abyss. Now Coogan, who was set to have a cameo in the same Ben Stiller-directed movie from which Wilson just pulled out, has rushed back to town for what will likely be the greatest damage control performance of his life. From Page Six:

Our source reports, "Coogan was in Hawaii when the news [of Wilson's suicide try] hit, but he came back Wednesday night and is trying to get in touch with Owen, Luke [Wilson] and Ben [Stiller]. He's trying to make sure that the movie ['Tropic Thunder'] doesn't fall through now."

Coogan fired back on "Access Hollywood," saying, "I do want to set the record straight and say that the allegations . . . are completely and utterly false." [...]

Love hasn't had contact with Coogan in months, except for an e-mail she sent him after Wilson's suicide attempt. It read, "You must feel really great right now. Does this feel life-affirming?" Love has said on her Web site she'll have no further comment.

There would, of course, be more comment--lots more--including this choice one from an interview with The Sun: "Hopefully the guy will leave us alone in this town and go back to Brighton or wherever the hell he's from...and stay there." If Coogan does manage to salvage his Thunder cameo, we suspect the production will quickly become The Most Awkward Set in Hollywood, marked by excruciating moments in which the actor idles up to the craft services table to see what Stiller, Jack Black, and Robert Downey Jr. are laughing so heartily about, only to have the three stars fall deadly silent, before ringleader Downey Jr. pipes in, "At least I never took anyone down with me, you fish n' chips-eating enabler."

He's an english comedian, his finest show being 'I'm Alan Partridge'. It hilarious but Americans wouldn't get it ;-)

Edit: see that last paragraph about the fish and chips etc, is that an actual quote by downey jr? I can't work it out

He was the lead actor in the awful Around the World in 80 days. The awful remake that is, not the awful original.

It's made up, by the same brilliant comedic mind that came up with the English dental gene joke.

The Defamer article makes no sense, it's true.

Steve Coogan is extremely funny.  That's neither here nor there, I suppose.

Courtney Love is obviously in a phase; the NME reported her criticising Amy Winehouse's drug use only a few days ago.

"Courtney Love has branded troubled singer Amy Winehouse the biggest drug user in music.

The former
Hole singer - who has recently cleaned up after years of hedonistic behavior - admitted she was stunned when she saw with her own eyes how many drugs Winehouse imbibed, reports Hollywood.com.

She said: "I've never seen anyone take as much coke as Amy. Even I wasn't that bad."

Courtney is a tired old has-been who is only in love with the sound of her own voice.  I think Angela Bowie is probably a fair comparison.

As for Owen, who knows?  I like him a lot too, and hope he has a swift and total recovery from either suicidal depression and/or drug dependency.

If anyone needs a cup of "shut the fuck up" its Courtney Love. Without a doubt one of the saddest things to walk on two legs.

Couldn't agree with you more, pal.  But look at this...Courtney swears blind to the NME that she never said any of those things about Amy Winehouse, and also puts in a few veiled references to the O. Wilson side-swiping while she's at it.

I wanted to check out Courtney Love's blog so went to her website. There's a photo with a whole lotta bright light shining fully on her face bleeding out all details but the dark eyes, nostrils and lips. Good trick! But what is she thinking with the sounds?!?! If ever there was a voice to make Yoko Ono's sound melodic, is the latest from CL.

Trainwreck.

I wonder how sweet Frances Bean is doing these days. Poor thing.
