Went to see Halloween this afternoon and was wondering if anyone else had seen it and what your thoughts were. I'm really beginning to enjoy Rob Zombie's movies. Their gritty and intense. And I think Halloween was basically the same. Zombie basically reinvented Haloween instead of trying to remake it, and make it feel like the original. The original is still a fine movie, but I think Zombie really does a nice job with his version of it. Acting was generally good, but the violence was graphic and intense - much like House of a Thousand Corpses.

Did he pull a "hey this guy is a psycho-killer but he's really cool and you should really feel like he's a hero" like he did in Devil's Rejects?

Nah. In one way he sort of humanized him a bit but that's all.

I have been wondering whether to go or not--I am quite fond of the original Halloween--but I really like Rob Zombie and think it looks good--should have a good soundtrack, to boot.  Will most likely go on my own as Eric doesn't do horror movies. :)

I wasn't nearly as pissed when I left the theater as I expected I would be.

RZ's Halloween is exactly what you would expect. Lots of tits, lots of blood, lots of crap dialog, and cameos from pretty much everyone on the current horror convention junket. Some of these Zombie constants work in favor of the film ,where other just make the viewing experience cringe inducingly awkward.

As per usual, Rob Zombie is a better visual story teller than he a verbal one. I really think if you watched this film sans dialog, nothing but the image and score, you'd have a far more frightening film. Zombie's typical white trash characterization does nothing but water down the proceedings. Scenes that should be filled with dread are filled with outlandishly creative, off the wall dialog that is so out of character it takes you right out of the movie.

Scenes with Michael Myers attacking his victims are far and away the best moments of the film. These moments are raw, realistic, and brutal. More frightening that any kill in the original series, RZ's Halloween's strongest moments come at the knife wielding hands of our silent antagonist.

This version of Halloween's cinematography is another point the cheer about. There's a gritty, dirty, real feeling to what we see here. RZ's aware of the frame and knows how to use it to his advantage when telling his story. He isn't much of a writer (I'm sure we can all agree there) but after a life watching horror movies I think the styles of the masters has been absorbed by Rob and turned into an interesting amalgam that is his own style. This, above all, is what I find most interesting to watch in the reinvented Halloween.

and the tits aren't bad either.

I really loved Halloween.  I was highly impressed that all the music was the same and the sunglasses over the sheet stayed.  OK, I'm dumb!

I did, however,  find myself bored at points.  In the original Halloween I was bored a bit waiting for Michael to attack while babysitting.  This time I was bored waiting for him to attack in that house while she was in the rafters.

I think it helps that RZ loves horror movies and that he wouldn't try to destroy one, just add to it.  I like Michael's history.  It was entertaining.

Nice to see ya req!

Strong start, but it put me to sleep after Michael was institutionalized.  The rape, I'm sorry to say, was probably the most interesting thing from that point on.
