No. It doesn't look like it's going to be any good.

I'm going to rent it. Actually, I'm going to wait until someone else rents it, then watch it.

It looks like some beautiful set pieces connected by a thin membrane of a story.

It was abysmal. It took profound songs and pasteurized them into Taymor's thin, crappy, unoriginal, completely non-compelling narrative. The singing was embarrassing to listen to.  I love Eddie Izzard, but he helped ruin, along with some terrible SFX, "For The Benefit of Mr. Kite."  There was one decent sequence you can probably find on youtube ("I Want You.")

Terrible film, if it can even be liked that. Taymor should've made this one into a stage musical instead, maybe it would work a little better in that setting. Total waste of time though... offended me as a music fun with it's increasingly dreadful take on Beatles songs, and as a movie fan with it's inability to pull off any scene successfully. So corny it's hard to believe modern minds conceived of it, it looks like the kind of laughable eighties trash you laugh at for a few minutes on TV before changing the channel.

It's funny, I'd expressed great interest in the Cirque du Soleil Love stage show to some friends a while back and they were like "OH! You should see Across the Universe! It's so unique and does a wonderful job of paying homage to the Beatles!" Hm. They're two completely different concepts, and one is a bullseye while the other isn't even close to the target. I still want to see both of them, but I am pretty sure that I will be angry at the lost time I'd spent watching Across the Universe. It just sounds kind of...dunno...corny?

Well, I listened to the abridged soundtrack a couple weeks ago. I'm guessing these were the best versions from the movie, but none of them were particularly memorable. However, I did finally get the i am sam soundtrack, and that had a much higher success rate.

And seconding the desire to see the Cirque show. I could care less about the Circus of the Sun usually, but I loved LOVE the album (all the original recordings, of course).

I was secretly a HUGE fan of Breakin' and Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo when I was an 80's kid. I so wanted to be able to breakdance like all the awesome Mexican kids in my elementary school. I could do a little bit, but I never looked quite so coordinated. I was better either tap dancing or on a soccer field. :P

LogicHat, we need to get a mob of us together and go see Love in Vegas. I'd be willing to cough up the $150 for a "cheap seats" ticket. :P

Being a Stones fan, I'm relieved that they won't likely have these kinds of films made. No Bee Gees presents Their Satanic Majesties Request, or Blue Man Group doing Exile On Main Street. They'll just have Scorsese direct them in Shine A Light (Opening April 4).  See ya there!!!

Oh, I'm talking far worse than Breakin' and Footloose... you really think that was the worst trash of the 80's?

Btw OSF, too late: check this out.

No, I liked Footloose and Breakin.  I even liked Better Off Dead, Tom Boy, Back To The Beach, Blind Date, Stewardess School, and Tuff Turf just to name a few.

Anyone ever see a terrible 80's flick called Fast Food? It was at the tail end of the 80's, but still a total 80's shite flick. The best thing about it was that it taught me what priapism was. :D

I thought I did, but I have not.  I can remember some scenes of some 80's films, but I can not remember the name of them.  Like one I remember a really hot blonde with donuts, but I don't remember what movie.  That may have been Tom Boy though.  I also remember a driving school movie and the guy in it tries to act like Bill Murray.

It starred Jim "Ernest" Varney & Traci Lords!!! Don't  believe I actually ever viewed it. Someone mentioned The Stones & animation, well the video for their cover of Harlem Shuffle was directed by Ralph Bakshi (live action stuff) & future Ren & Stimpy creator John Kricfalusi directed the cartoon stuff. Check it out!!!
