Eddie Izzard has to be one of my top faves. Not to mention I've had a serious crush on him for, like, ever. There's just something quite smashing about a straight man dressed in ladies getup. Not to mention I love it when he references "jam" because I think that has to be one of the best words on the planet. (coupled with my fetish for the word "pants", the bit about James Bond and the pants that turn into jam just about sends me into a fit) Growing up, I always loved listening to the old routines of Bill Cosby. I know, I know. He's so clean and whatnot. But there's something charming about his older comedy bits. Mitch Hedburg always cracked me up. Bill Hicks as well.

Note to self: Buy Eddie Izzard DVDs. I'm seriously going to get around to it one of these days. About the same time I finally pick up a Bill Hicks record. Lewis Black can usually crack me up with little trouble (ex: "Starbucks across from Starbucks"), and I enjoy a lot of George Carlin's bits. Lately, it seems I'm more likely to read a comedian's book than get a chance to watch/listen to a performance (though compare Steve Martin's Pure Drivel to any of his recent movies and tell me that's a bad thing).

Morecambe & Wise were my favourites when I was a child; now I prefer The League of Gentlemen or Mitchell & Webb. But my all-time favourites would have to be Monty Python.
My theory by A. Elk, brackets, Miss, brackets. This theory goes as follows and begins now. All brontosauruses are thin at one end, much much thicker in the middle, and then thin again at the far end. That is my theory, it is mine, and it belongs to me, and I own it, and what it is, too. Ange's Odyssey

You said it, Flange baby. Look no further than Monty Python. My favorite comedian would have to be George Carlin. I love Bill Cosby's old stand up too, I have some on LP and they are drop dead hilarious, especially when he reflects upon his years as a child. The Chicken Heart That Ate New York City! Classic! When we were driving up to the U.P. we listened to a standup recording of Dane Cook and it was pretty funny and then we listened to another one on the way home and oh my goodness it was very, very funny. My sister would dig the Eddie Izzard comments, she loves that guy.

Oh my god Smokey. Fix your avatar size before I delete your posts. I would have included Monty Python on my list, but I thought we were aiming for stand-up comedians, not comedy troupes. So, consider Monty Python duly added at the top of my list with Eddie. Smokey...the chicken heart. LOL Nice. I was always a big fan of his bit about driving in San Francisco ("St Peter asks 'How did you die?' 'Oh, me and a Volkswagen drifted backwards into the Bay...'"). Also enjoyed the Noah bit. ("Who is this really?" "It's God, Noah." "Rrrright......Am I on Candid Camera?")

Does that make me a comedian? yeah, I saw that. I changed it, witnessed the horror right after and changed it straight away. Sorry for the trouble.

Damn you, Smokey! *shakes tiny fist* Forgot to add that, of course, I love Carlin (older stuff, preferably). His books are lots o' fun as well.

Bill Hicks - annoying when he gets too preachy, but other than that, he's gold. Lewis Black - got to get me some of that water with chunks of fat in it.

Yeah, I'll throw ol' Monty P into my pile too. Is there anyone who doesn't like at least one Python skit, from the show or the movies?

Bill Hicks as well. | Rebel started us off with Belushi, NOT a standup. Classic Cos is unbeatable. I love the offbeatitude of Emo Phillips, the eternal child of Pee-wee Herman, & the take-no-prisoners attitude of Bill Hicks. Possibly my fave standup album is Dana Gould's Funhouse, concluding with his Morrissey parody Clownfucker. Just got the Sarah Silverman Program DVD. It goes in with my Jesus is Magic disc. She is crazy-larious, and OF COURSE SHE'S BEING IRONIC!!! Mr. Show, League of Gents, Python, Firesign Theatre... so much funny. I did standup in the early to mid '90s (started when TP was first on the air). I was friends with Mitch Hedberg when he was just starting. I even beat him in a few open-mike competitions. He was clever in a stoner sorta way. I admired him, but didn't find him that funny. Steven Wright had that corner sewn up better. It's a shame Mitch went the way he did. I recall his brief stint of That '70s Show. His character was replaced by Tommy Chong. Oh, I did standup for about 5 years. Not my eventual thing. I was a single dad at the time. Valuable experience..

I don't think I really have one now. When I was a kid I liked Eddie Murphy, Andrew Dice Clay and Sam Kinison. I then liked Henry Rollins. That was my Henry Rollins, Jim Morrison, Nirvana years. Now I like the chubby Hispanic guy. I don't know his name. I have seen him a few times on TV. I also like Doug Addison. I have only seen a few clips on you tube or when I met him he told me some jokes.

I don't remember what he was talking about, just that he was funny. I think he was on one of the Last Comic Standing Shows. There is another guy I saw on Jay Leno. He was funny as well.

Lewis Black. What an absolute riot!!! He has come here to Wisconsin several times--am determined that we go and see his show when he is next here. Other favorites: Eddie Murphy, Steve Martin, Jim Carrey, George Carlin, Ron White, Chris Rock, Robin Williams, Dave Chapelle, Jim Breuer, Bill Cosby, Gallagher (who we got to see...didn't get hit with any watermelon, but got some Easter candy hit out to us with a tennis racket!) LOL.

Frankie Boyle. This guy is gonna be huge. A breath of fresh air for british comedy, and is not held back at all by taboo subjects (but without going toooooo far). For those who watch British television, he is the Scottish guy on Mock The Week. I'm going to see him on the 19th, and i can't wait. For those unfamiliar with him, check out youtube 'cos there's some amazing collections of his material on there. Others worthy of mention. Bill Hicks, Dylan Moran, Jimmy Carr, Eddie Izzard (Early material, Glorious and stuff before that), Billy Connoly, Simon Amstell, Bill Bailey, Jack Dee (sometimes).

I love Franki Boyle on Mock the Week aswell. His voice is funny, even when he's not making a joke. I think that Scottish and Irish comedians have an advantage, their voices just enhance the comedy. I like Dylan Moran, Bill Bailey, Larry David (in Curb Your Enthusiasm) and Ricky Gervais aswell. Oh, and btw, what's going on on the TP and Lynch Boards, no-one's posted for ages!
