Laura Hunt (Gene Tierney) has been murdered. As New York detective Mark McPherson (Dana Andrews) investigates, he finds that everyone seems to be in love with her -- and he, too, gradually falls under her spell. But things aren't always as they seem, and McPherson soon faces a shockingly unexpected twist.

I watched this last night and expected a little Twin Peaks action from the description.  Other than a man named Waldo Lydecker, there wasn't much exciting in it.  It was a decent movie with a young Vincent Price, and I love old movies so it was time well spent.

Great movie.

There are so many allusions to old movies in Twin Peaks. Someone complied a list of them on twinpeaks.org.

I was watching Dinner at Eight the other day and there's a Packard couple and a guy named Renault.

I actually saw this movie in a theater not long ago. I had heard it was one of the influences behind Twin Peaks. It's a nice, suspenseful film noir; not at the Hitchcock level, but good. The near obsession with Laura's portrait seemed to be a link with Peaks, but that and the character names were about all, I thought. Yes, there's a surprising plot twist!

The question is, Where have you gone?

The detective gave me a Cooper feel.  Playing that baseball game and seemingly obsessed with his job
