So... New TV Knight Rider movie coming out on Feb. 17. KITT is a Ford Mustang. Thoughts?

Why no Automan movie? That could be updated into a super-duper-hyper-cyber-techno-thriller for the new millennium.

Did anyone happen to catch this? I watched it today during lunch (Yay TiVo!) and I told my roommates "I can only watch a little bit...I have an essay to write!" figuring it would be bleh. Yeah, I stayed and watched the whole thing. While we couldn't help constantly comparing it to our beloved series of yore, I have to say it wasn't half bad! It surprised me as much as the new Bionic Woman series did. OK, so Val Kilmer is definitely more Hal 9000 than KITT, but I thought they worked hard to make him still a bit endearing. (I had to pause the TiVo so that we could spend 10 minutes laughing our asses off over the conversation he had with Mike where he asks "are you a homosexual?" and proceeds to display images of a rainbow flag and men holding hands...) The guy who plays Mike looks a little too much like he could be the son of Harry Hamlin and I had to rush in here to check IMDb after it was over just to make sure I was wrong. (I was) I thought that KITT being a Mustang would really piss me off but in the end, it didn't. I hardly noticed half the time. One thing I am a little annoyed by is the whole nanites thing. Aside from the fact that it was a little too Jake 2.0-ish for me (RIP to that great show), the fact that KITT can actually change color and appearance is too much of a plot convenience for me. (and it smacks of Stephen King's Sleepwalkers...what, no mother-son alien incest to round it out?) I'm kind of rooting for this to become a series, though I can SERIOUSLY do without the constant barrage of Ford ads during the commercial breaks. They were too distracting...it was bad enough that almost every vehicle encountered in the series was a f**king Ford. I really didn't want to see it in between segments too! Oh, I was also mildly annoyed by the Montecito...reference to the long-overdue-to-be-cancelled NBC show Las Vegas. I half-expected characters from that show to be in the background. Yeesh. James Caan was smart to finally jump from that sinking ship...

That was my first reaction upon seeing that Knight Rider was being done again--that KITT was going to be a Ford. Yes, a mustang...but still a FORD. I remember yelling upstairs to Eric, "THEY'RE MAKING KITT A F*CKING FORD!!!". It didn't bother me as much as I thought it did...every once in a while I'd catch myself going, "A Ford..." but...LOL It's like turning Christine into a red Honda with a white racing stripe. Though the FORD ads... I can understand a few since that is the star of the show and all...but...c'mon... I was way more impressed than I thought I was going to be, and would definitely watch it if it became a series. Though it is hard, I'm trying not compare this with our lovable black Trans Am because I just shake my head and say, "KITT's spinning his wheels somewhere...a FORD!!" --so am looking at this as a whole new adventure, which it is. :) It's still a car chase--which is in my opinion, if done correctly, for the win. :)

When I was 12 I watched the 80s show with a passion. Now if I'm heavily buzzed and with some friends, I might watch reruns of the 80s show for fun and laughs. But I had my doubts about this new show. Although I was curious to hear Kilmer play a talking car (like a rubbernecker getting a quick view of some blood on the highway), and the homosexual moment with the rainbow flag was funny, I dozed off twice in the last hour of the movie. I agree about the use of the nanotech. The way the spoiler would appear and disappear looked painfully fake. The under-use of The Hoff was disappointing. Not because I'm a fan of The Hoff. But because The Hoff has gone the way of the Shatner. Back in their prime, they were awesome. But time has moved on, and time has not been kind. The Hoff has an entertainment value all its own. The psuedo-male-bonding scene between Harry Hamlin Jr. and The Hoff was kinda laughable, and made me wonder "Why the hell did I have to wait an hour and forty-five minutes for that?". If they revive this as a new series, the only thing that would make me watch it is if they do some classic showdown (a la Kirk vs Kahn), such as the return of the evil Garth Knight and old-school KARR, or the return of Goliath. Please, no more Ford commercials. Please.

Oh you totally know they'd bring in a KARR kind of thing. One thing we've learned over the years with series' being redone, rebooted, or sequelled is that they love to pick out the key elements of their predecessor and remake them to the Nth degree. We saw that in Star Trek constantly.
