i posted a few weeks ago about this coming up. Yeah, we bought a Blu-Ray a few months back and after Dreamworks and some of hte others went over to HD-DVD, i started getting a little nervous. Luckily, Warner Bros solved that problem in January by going Blu-ray exclusive. After that, everything fell apart for HD-DVD. Now it's a question of whether or not people will adopt the HD format.

I bought a PS3 to celebrate. Just wish the price of Blu-ray movies would come down...

they will probably stay up a little longer now that there is no competition. Once it becomes cheaper to make them (in a year or so), we'll start to see them drop. Amazon and other outlets often have a buy 1 (or 2) and get 1 free deals. Have to keep an eye out for them.

I'm immensely relieved to finally know which HD disc format I'm going to wait three or four years to adopt.

On a similar note, when Futurama comes out on BluRay, will HDTV owners finally be able to make out Amy's obscene tattoo?

I'm just mighty pleased that this was not a war without end! I was rooting for Blu-Ray and so happy to see it prevail. As for the cost, even before the announcement I was finding lots of local ads for a free Blu-Ray with the purchase of certain HD-TVs. I've been looking to get another flat screen TV and thought this was a good deal for a secondary television/DVD set-up even if it hadn't emerged the champ. Wonder if those offers are still on? Now, as for those slews of non-BluRay DVDs! Do regular DVDs look better when played on a Blu Ray machine?

Yeah, they look better - not a huge amount - the Blu-Ray will up-convert standard DVDs to 720. You can see a slight difference (depending on hte TV). One thing for sure people MUST use an HDMI cable between the player and TV otherwise it's pointless.
