I'm not entirely sure why this resonated so much with me when I read it, except that it seemed to sum up my emotional view of the world lately:

An Italian woman artist who was hitch-hiking to the Middle East dressed as a bride to promote world peace has been found murdered in Turkey.

The naked body of Giuseppina Pasqualino di Marineo, 33, known as Pippa Bacca, was found in bushes near the city of Gebze on Friday.

She had said she wanted to show that she could put her trust in the kindness of local people.

It's not so much that I see this as fully and literally representative of the world at large, but at the same time I'd be hard-pressed to find a more fitting symbol of today's zeitgeist. Admittedly, I've been considering lately the question of whether art is dead, and there's a morbid kernel of humor to be found there, but I certainly don't have the heart to expand on that or give it more credence than the average sad and subjective coincidence deserves...

Anyway, I fail at ray-of-sunshine today; I've got a fever, and the only prescription is more lolcats (or at least less news).
