Happy Mother's Day to all you mothers out there. My friend Erin Day is due with her first bambino this weekend. She's in her late 40s. You go, Erin!!! And I'd like to recommend a film about motherhood for all of you out there who have moms. It's called the Business of Being Born, a documentary directed by Abby Epstein & executive produced & featuring Ricki Lake. My son was born at home 26 years ago & I wouldn't have done it any differently. But I was shocked at some of the "developments" in childbirth in the quarter decade since. One third of the births in the U.S. now are elective C-sections. Only 1% of U.S. births are done at home vs. around 70% in most of Europe & Japan-- BUT we have one of the highest infant mortality rates. Hospitals are for the ill. Healthy mothers should avoid hospital births, for a multitude of reasons. The medical community has brainwashed our country into believing that drugged up hospital births are the ONLY way to do it... Mothers in our country don't seem to want to give birth, but rather have it given to them. But at what price? This film is not preachy, but rather thought provoking, shocking, beautiful & even funny. I can't rate it highly enough. Rent it on Netflix, or just watch it at Netlix online!!! Want a taste, watch the trailer at www.TheBusinessofBeingBorn.com. Oh, Erin is having her child naturally, in a hospital birthing room, mainly because of her age. Who's YOUR mama?!

Hey there Suavey!!!!!! How are you dollface?! Anyway, on the mom-birth-home-natural-vs-hospital-etc... Here is a short story of my experience. I went to the hospital after my water broke (I will save all the details for later if anyone actually cares to hear them ) and had a natural labor for 16 hours until they threatened a C-Section. You see, I was so nervous, tense, and exhausted from medication-free contractions for 16 HOURS that my body was not allowing itself to dilate enough. So they threatened a C-Section, which I definitely did NOT want. I tried so hard, did lamaze, and tried everything for a natural birth.. but I ended up getting an epidural to avoid a c-section. It was a beautiful thing. I was afraid of a needle in my spine, but I didn't even feel that, no side effects, nothing except it only worked on my left side. So I felt everything on my right side. That was just enough pain killer to relax me so and I dilated very quickly from 7-10 cm in an hour. It took 16 hours to get to 7 cm, and 1 hour to get the last 3 cm. I'm also glad that I was in the hospital b/c my son's heartbeat was getting weak and he came out with his cord in a knot.. also, I had a bacterial infection. So they instantly treated me with the IV and my son as well. We are both healthy and it was a good birth experience for me. I also got a free diaper bag and learned how to breast feed, lol. Off topic, I breast fed my son for 1 year.

Unfortunately, I can't see the show (in Cleveland, Miss.). To check out my latest, look at the Chew Pool trio on YouTube & the podcast play at www.letusitupontheground.com. As for your story, very strange, as my friend Erin had the same experience!!! 16 hours, arrested dilation, epidural, baby in some distress. Glad you both came through it well (& NO c-section). Her baby Emmett can be viewed at www.theimperialone.com (no graphic birth shots). They're currently residing in the same apartment complex where Layne Staley breathed his last (Cobain spent time there as well). Daddy Tony Driscoll was singer for Seattle band The Purdins (who played shows with many Grungers, including AIC). Their sole album (hard to find) was snarkily called The Purdins' Greatest Hits. They have several entries on YouTube. Hope you're dealing well with the "terriffic twos"...

My goodness, the terrific twos are a story of its own. All in all, my son is awesome and is my life. Congrats to your daughter graduating highschool! AND getting the lead in ANNIE!! The sun'll come out... tomorrow.. bet your bottom dollar... that.. tomorrow... you know you're singing along.. hee hee. USPS carrier, thats goooooood exercise. Especially with all those hills out there! I miss grunge. Now I miss Seattle. If I weren't married with a child, I would be living there for sure. I love the history (thank you so much for the tour!) and it is such a beautiful area. Thanks to you, Chris Mathews, I now know more about Seattle than I would if I didn't know you. It certainly is my favorite city to visit so far. You're lucky to have such a cool job, I hope you like it. Time seems to go by faster and faster each year. I'm happy to see that you are still in the acting world too. By the way, Elephantman has the costume still. Sorry about that! When I get some time (currently remodeling and the boy has an ear infection in both ears!) I'll check out the youtube stuff. Keep in touch!!

Way to go! I breastfed all 3 of mine for around a year and a half each and it makes such a difference! It is a big commitment, but so worth it if you are able.
