Vindicated Student Paves Way for Religious Freedom for Other Christian Artists in America's Public Schools
by Teresa Neumann : May 24, 2008 : Staff - WorldNetDaily
http://worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=64908

"Allowing demonic depictions by some students while prohibiting Christian religious expression in artwork by others is a blatant violation of the Constitution. A public school cannot require students to sign away their constitutional right to free speech and religious expression."

AP's Drawing(Wisconsin)—WorldNetDaily reports that an art policy at Tomah High School that allowed images of Buddha, the Grim Reaper, demons and Medusa but banned the Bible reference John 3:16 in a painting by a student known only as "A.P." is being changed as the result of that student's challenge to the district.

Because of the settlement reached this week by attorneys from the Alliance Defense Fund (ADF), who filed a lawsuit in U.S. District court on behalf of A.P., school officials have removed the ban on religious expression in class assignments., graded A.P.'s artwork, and all references to the detentions he was given as a result have been cleared from his record. The school will also pay A.P.'s attorney fees.

Said senior ADF counsel David Cortman: "Allowing demonic depictions by some students while prohibiting Christian religious expression in artwork by others is a blatant violation of the Constitution. A public school cannot require students to sign away their constitutional right to free speech and religious expression. Furthermore, other students created artwork in violation of this illegitimate policy, but no action was taken against them. Only our client was singled out."

"Christain", you mean Christ stain, like what's on the shroud of Turin?

I particularly enjoyed the juxtaposition of the burning cross with the words "a sign of love".

LOL,  It depends on how you "see" it.  If you are looking at it as some kind of Klu Klux Klan thing then it would not be a sign of love.  If you look it as the passion that Christ puts in your heart and has for people who don't know him then it would be a sign of love.  P.S. I love you Booth. :)

Oooh, heartburn!!! Unfortunately, the literal "burning cross" IS a Klan trademark that is hard to ignore,   much like how the nazis perverted the ancient swastika into a symbol for evil...

No, but I know how to get to Carnegie Hall!!!  Kevin, I'd think that after all the posting I've done in this forum, that you'd take me for the clear-headed secular humanist that I am.  But Jesus works for you, so wonderful news, my friend. I haven't been to a worship service since the early '70s, & haven't missed it. Though I have always wanted to attend a black gospel  session... HOWL-e lu-YAAA!!!!

I know that, LOL.  The reason why I asked you that is because the cross is suppose to offend you.  It does not matter what type of cross the guy drew, it will still offend,  because the cross is suppose to offend those who don't believe in Jesus.  They see the cross as something foolish.  But to those who do believe in Jesus the cross is a symbol of liberty.  But reading through your post I think that some Christians may have really hurt you.  And if that happened I'm sorry that it did.  Or you may not just believe, and if I have ever said anything that hurt you, I am sorry about that as well.  Anyway, be blessed on your journey my friend.

The crucifix doesn't "offend" me, Kev. I'm an atheist, not a vampire!!! I bought a white chocolate Easter crucifix, because the idea is kinda ludicrous (just got a discounted  Jesus action figure, too).  I think most Christians are well intentioned & I do have problems with some. But basically, I just adhere to no religion, organized or disorganized.

LOL, Well as long as you don't tap on my window at night like the little kid in  Salem's Lot then we will be okay.  That kid scared me when I saw that movie.
