Ok, so it isn't high brow or intellectual, but it is a cute movie you can take the kids to. It is also relatively short, which is good for two reasons: the obvious--it is over more quickly; and less time to try to make your 3-year old use a quiet voice and sit still. I like Jack Black so it was fun to see/hear him in this role; it really is a very cute movie.

You have my sympathy. I always try to make people agree on what I have to share about a major movie, but the general snob takes over. I was going to start a thread on The Happening, but the last time I started something on M Night Shyamalan, it was a tragedy! I mean, there were people responding, but it was mainly a disappointment. About Kung Fu Panda, you're making me curious about it. Is it really good? I like Jack Black too.
I generally am a bit disappointed in the animation that's been made nowadays, but there are some exceptions (which I'm not telling right now...)

The animation is of top-notch quality (for the style it's in), and so it pretty much everything else. The basic story is nothing unusual or surprising, but it hardly matters.
