Saw the debut of Julia Sweeney's latest monologue film at SIFF last Sunday. It concerns her very genuine & completely hilarious conversion to atheism. It's now available on CD & when an excerpt was played on This American Life, it became the most popular piece that they'd ever run. It's something that every thinking person should check out. (Trivia note: her first mono-film:  Then God Said HA! was directed by her pal Quentin Tarantino)

So you are saying that atheism is a religion?

Yes, that's exactly it!  I said she "converted" to atheism (from Catholicism), but convert just means to change. Or are you inferring that atheism is a religion simply because I posted this under the Religion category?

Well, conversion (the word) is not necessarily associated with religion & I posted this under that category because it is about one person's rejection of ALL religion (she has a Catholic background, but investigated a number of other prominent "spiritual philosophies" & found them all lacking).  I know that most people of faith don't like to have their faith questioned, but if it's strong it should be able to stand  the utmost scrutiny.  So, I dare you to check this out. The film is likely not going to be released or on DVD soon, but see if your local library has it.

I don't need to check it out because it is a settled issue with me.  And I am not afraid to have religion be questioned.  I think it needs to be.  All religions need to be.  Religion without relationship with Christ, I think is more dangerous then someone who isn't religious at all.  Good luck on your journey.  Here are a few websites of people who were atheist and now they are not.  www.annerice.com and http://www.christianodyssey.com/history/lewis.htm

Lewis sounds less like an atheist and more like a christian in denial. Or maybe an atheist of the teenage rebellion kind.

Perhaps there should be a website for those who had faith in god and then realized that organized religion was one the greatest scams of all time. Subsequently, these folks are now atheist.

Or Perhaps a website that argues if one is born an atheist or becomes one by their own choice!!!

Not much of an if there. It's the same as language.

There are lots of those websites around.  Religion will never fill you, knowledge, drugs, sex, money, fame, food the only thing that will fill you to overflowing life is Jesus.
