I like him for the simple fact that he rips on Rachael Ray as often as he can without seeming completely crass.

Anthony Bourdain is the man. I want his job. I would love to travel to exotic places and drink bizarro local specialties and talk shit and get paid for it. Seriously one of my favorite shows to watch. I so admire his advanced skills in sarcasm.

I got a kick out of watching Bourdain go back and do a double shift at the restaurant he used to work in in NY. I'm a "woman of a certain age" who works in a fine dining establishment, and I felt his pain!!

Thanks for the welcome, REBEL! I enjoy cooking, but I enjoy travel even more, and tuned in to Bourdain to check out where he was off to...then got sucked in by his personality. What a character! I remember getting a kick out of a show where he is in Iceland, I think, having some kind of "power soup" with a bunch of big muscle guys at a gym. He ends up getting totally humiliated trying to arm wrestle one of the guys... very funny. Ironically, I'm a vegetarian, and Tony likes his meat, but to each his own... the guy is still too cool.

Greetings, REBEL...check Calling all Chefs thread for Curried Quinoa with Peas and Cashews recipe...Another Bourdain episode I liked was his returning to his New Jersey hometown. It was like the opening of a Sopranos episode, but with Tony looking out the car window! I grew up on the border of NY and NJ, and my family vacationed many summers in Asbury Park, and I have many fond memories of the boardwalk there. In the late 70's I saw a phenomenal double header on the boardwalk, the B-52's opening for Talking Heads! So it was a bit sad to see Tony walking around the abandoned boardwalk, only one fortune teller left in a small booth on the ghostly boards. Sigh.

Wikipedia says Bourdain lives in Manhattan. His home base, when he's not traveling, is the Brasserie Les Halles, where he was executive chef for close to 10 years. Interesting tidbit... he married his second wife on 4/20/07, and they have one kid together born 4/9/07 :) And he quit his 2 pack a day smoking habit when their daughter was born! You can do it, Tony!
