Out of curiousity, has anyone here got or played the awesome 4th and last Metal Gear Solid game for the PS3?? I'm a Metal Gear nut, and love the game! Thoughts on it??

I own it, but I haven't played past the first couple of checkpoints yet.  I did do a little online -- worst signup process ever, absolutely ridiculous, seemingly designed to discourage people -- and it was fun.

I didn't play the previous ones, so I'm not invested in the mythology of it at all (though I did do enough homework to catch up to the basics).  But I'll probably finish my 100% run in GTA4 (even though that game disappointed me a bit) sooner than I'll get back into MGS4.

And with Left 4 Dead, Fallout 3 (though the gameplay video I watched put me off a little -- reskinned Oblivion does not appeal to me so much), and GTA4 extended content all coming up, I'll probably be too busy anyway.

I'm still playing Final Fantasy IV on the SNES!

I'm so busy gearing all of my toons up for the (hopefully) upcoming WoW expansion pack, I don't have time for anything else. (except I DID take a break the other day to queue up A Link to the Past on my SNES. I LOVE that game; next weekend I'm supposed to walk my brother through Super Mario 3 since he's never beat it before...SACRILEGE!)

However, my most recent exes are all fantastic gamers and at least two of them are beating off over MGS4 as we speak. They're both fans of the franchise since the beginning...I remember watching one of them, whom I was dating at the time, and the other one, who was his best friend (I KNOW! Serious breach in dating etiquette) trying to figure out how to get the guard dogs to pee on them while they were wearing their cardboard box... so suffice it so say they are very much enjoying the new game.

I'm one console generation and two GTA games behind right now. But that's good enough for me. Especially if they release the new Ghostbusters game on PS2.

It's the best game for that console, next to Super Metroid.

Just an opinion, Logic, but GTA-wise, if you play through San Andreas and do at least a taste of all the side stuff in there, you're caught up.  GTA4 has a couple of interesting innovations on the formula, but San Andreas is the bees knees...

Damn straight. That game is the sole reason I keep my SNES. I would pay any amount of money to keep it in tip top shape. Hoping one day Nintendo will rerelease it on the Wii like they did on the GameCube with the NES games. That way I won't have to worry about anything happening to my game or my system. :) That whole "If you could only save three things if your house was on fire" meme becomes more complicated where Zelda is concerned.

With MGS 4, Hideo Kojima tied up all the loose storylines, and it was a fitting end to a cracking series of games! What an ending as well, I had time to have a smoke and 2 beers while watching it. Lasted over a damn hour!

Just bought Call of Duty 4 at weekend, love the online play on it!

Well shit, now I'm going to have to play it. With all the resounding endorsements I keep hearing, I'm thinking it's well worth my time. I've gotten further and further away from console gaming in the last 10 years. Mayhaps this will be the game that brings me back to my roots? :D I must admit I'd grown much further away from console gaming with the advent of games like DDR and Guitar Hero. When games like those started hitting the market, it brought in all these people who wouldn't normally be gamers, which is great for the gaming industry but crap for the gaming universe where the last thing we need is more gaming noobs clogging up the pores. I'm going to get a shirt made that says "Being able to flail on a plastic mat for three hours does not make you l33t" or something to that effect. (Even worse are the Guitar Hero players who think that beating the game now means they actually have musical talent. OMG srsly? And now I know of at least two people who think they're drummers because they play Rock Band regularly...)

Oooh, lookey me. I'm all Angry Video Game Nerd up in here. :P

LMAO! You are entitled to feel that way. I may buy that shirt as well! For a stand alone game itself MGS4 is a great game, graphically stunning, great musical score, gripping story, addictive gameplay, ticks all the boxes for me! If you do play it and need any assistance, let me know!

Warning to Amanda: if you buy a PS3, you will start buying Blu-Ray movies.  You don't necessarily think so now, but it will happen.  And one day you'll catch yourself pausing over buying something on regular dvd, thinking, "but what if I buy it, and in six months there's a Blu-Ray version, and then I'm stuck with this one?"

On the other hand, I finally own The Searchers now, so it ain't all bad.

Well MGS4 has been completed on the first 3 difficulty levels and Im not going any further, as you get less rations to hold on each difficulty level. May try the online game..but at the moment Im playing Call of Duty 4, which kicks ass online
